500ml bottle poured into an Old Speckled Hen badged pint vase at home on 16th Feb 2015. Extremely lively pour with a huge white foaming head that filled the glass before I had a chance to stop pouring. It settled down OK and a pale golden body began to appear as the bubbles calmed and popped. Good hoppy nose with a hint of the bitterness to come: which it does by the bucket load in the taste. Really hop bitter in every corner, but in a good way. I really enjoyed this: during a random Monday tasting session with myself and Bertie, the dog!

Bottle from Provenance Wines. Black body with a thick beige head. Light lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, prunes and whisky hints. Flavour of wood, raisin and a light whisky burn. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. The whisky is nicely integrated but I prefer the uncasked Black Cork.

On cask at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - there’s a thin slightly off white head that is attractive. But the main deal is the colour of the beer underneath. Beautiful chestnut, red, orange and elements of black too. So it definitely looks the business. Nose - light caramel, gentle digestive, a hint of red fruit. Taste -caramel and red fruits intermingled. Some molasses on the end. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly balanced finish. Overall - I’d like more nuttiness, Bob! But it is good.

330ml bottle from Provenance Wines, Tollcross, Edinburgh. Pours black, long-lasting off-white head. Aromas of liquorice, whisky, booze, wood. Taste is far to woody for me, chewy, woody. Black cork is a great beer, which has been lost in the barrel.
