Since George and Susannah Bateman opened our independent family brewery in 1874, we’ve been using the best possible ingredients and craft brewing methods to make beers that people love.

Four generations later, and we’re still doing things our own way – and have quite a few more beers to our name.

Cask at The Red Lion, Skegness. Pours almost black with a small beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, toffee, chocolate, liquorice, asted malt and nut. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft to flat carbonation.

Vintage Ale (2014) from Batemans

2014 vintage which is aged with wine cask and purchased in a 500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Ruby chestnut with little or no head. Aroma is sweet fruity. The flavour is also sweet with dried fruit and burnt treacle. The alcohol has a big hit.

Tried at the 2017 Peterborough Beer Festival. Amber colour with an off white head. Aroma and taste are balanced bittersweet malts. Easy to drink sessionable beer.

500ml bottle. Clear, red-brown colour with small, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Sweet-ish, fruity malty and hoppy aroma, hints of cherry and red berries, a background-ish touch of toffee. Taste is sweet-ish malty, notes of toffee, fruity overtones with hints of cherry and red berries. Nice.
