Maine Mead Works was founded in 2007 with the goal of re-introducing the world to the oldest of all fermented beverages. Using wildflower honey, water and our own proprietary yeast strain, we blend ancient tradition and modern science to produce a highly distinctive product at our Meadery in downtown Portland, Maine.

A burgundy red mead with a light clover honey aroma, with light blueberry notes. In mouth, nice smooth honey with light blueberry mash, a bit of astringency, corky notes. Tasted April 8th, bottle gift from Billy B.

A pale cyser with aroma of green apples and honey, cloves, light astringency. In mouth, a nice tart green apple, bubbly mouthfeel, light clover honey, not bad. On tap at Farmhouse Tap and Grill, April 7, 2012.

A golden mead with a thin lacing white head, In aroma, smooth honey and Roobois tea, light minty notes. In mouth, a nice lactic honey with wild tea, corky notes, nice and smooth. On tap at Three Penny Taproom, April 6, 2012.

On tap at the Farmhouse Tap and Grille Burlington VT. Pours a crystal clear golden amber color with a smattering of tiny bubbles that dissipate almost instantly. Smells of apples, honey, brown sugar, and a hint of sulfur. Taste is sweet with sugar, honey, and apples. Medium body with a semi sweet palette. Nice cyser, and definitely a contrast to the ipa’s I’d been drinking,
