Tap. Pours crystal clear golden with a small fizzy white head that dissipates quickly with no lain. Aroma is honey, mint, slightly medicinal, cough drops. Flavor is also a bit medicinal, honey, tea, mint. Ricola, medicinal. Light plus sweet. Light body, light carbonation.

Draught at Three Penny Taproom, 3/15/14
Clear, pale golden mead with just a touch of carbonation visible.
Mint is quite apparent in the nose, as, of course, is the honey sweetness, though it’s quickly tempered by a black pepper-like spiciness, which must be the black tea. Soft vanilla and even touches of lactic acid waft over the nose. The honey seems fresh, very raw and as aromatic as I’ve smelled. I could smell the stuff while they were pouring it. No fusels or any other flaws and thank god not an adjunct bomb.
Shockingly good in the flavor. Not that I had any biases towards Maine Mead Works, just a little skeptical of a drink containing honey, black tea, lemon and mint, as those arent exactly subtle flavors and the potential for overdoing it seems very high.
Quite nicely, though, I’m proven wrong and this stuff is just phenomenal. I kept waiting for the honey to get syrupy on the finish, or the mint to overpower the rest, but it all is well balanced. The lemon seemed the lightest of all, and gave more flavor than it did acid, while the tea added a nice peppery dryness and the mint and honey seemed to be the main force of the flavor (the mint could probably be toned down a little bit more). Immediately noted it was a hydromel as well, as it was just way too drinkable (was unaware of the abv at the time). The lactic notes added a wild and additionally dry note that was exceptional (havent had that in a mead before, that I can recall). Will certainly be trying more from these guys.

22.06.2013, 0,75l bottle sampled @ The Festival Portland Maine:
Aroma and taste are both kind of Sangria like. Slightly fruity, red berries, grass, citrus, hints of honey. Fair enough.

Bottle from Liquor World in Cambridge. $17. Eek.
Ommegang chalice. Full pour. No fear. Pretty, clear, still, purple/violet grape juice color.

Smells of blueberries, grape juice, & candles, with mild honey bringing up the rear. A little acidic & sour, it smells natural & inviting.

Taste is nice, earthy & tart blueberries upfront, with a incredibly waxy/vasoline-ish texture bringing up the rear. Lots of bubblegum. Drab honey flavor. Half sweet, more so tart, with lots of blueberry skin & watery concord grape. Simple, authentic, if mild flavor. The berry would probably come through better in a fuller, semi-sweet rendition, as they aren’t very potent at all unless dried or full of sugar. Or maybe they just skimped on the fruit some.

Very thin body, gentle alcohol. The wax doesn’t bring in many off flavors, but it seems to coat/laminate my tongue, which isn’t nice. It drinks incredibly easy if you don’t mind the waxy buildup.

Disappointing for the price? Sure. Not terrible though.

Bottle. Clear pale yellow colir. Aromabof bitter stamens. Taste is bitter and dry straw and licorice. We took a vote and decided that dry hopping doesn’t work for meads.

Decent-sized pour @ Meadhall in Cambridge. Most of the other meads were only available by the full bottle. :/ Glistening, clear, pale gold. The incredibly floral scent of dry hop just expands & fills my personal space. Smells like a bowl of strong citrus punch being served in a room full of sweet wildflowers. Tastes of white wine, melon, menthol, & pungent hops. Though the honey didn’t seem to add much aside from a moderate boost in body, it was semi-sweet, not too waxy, & the end result was silky on the tongue. This bottle easily tops the short list of drab, dry-hopped meads that I’ve tried. :)
