Cask (handpump) @ Bar Fringe, 8 Swan Street, Manchester, Greater Manchester, England M4 5JN.Clear medium orange yellow colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, apple, light to moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, fruity, apple, malty. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. [20120118]

Golden brown ale with a deep grain and biscuit roast aroma, Some malts in the taste but it is its heavy textured bitterness which is dominant in its taste.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before Jan 2007, drank when just out of date, on the last day of March 2007. Poured into a Palm tulip glass (twice). Looked good, bright body of terracotta red with a fine off white foaming head. Sweet spices and yeast aroma, very hoppy too, a malt bread smell. As the beer warmed a toffee smell appeared. Dry, yet fruity, slightly tart in flavour but with a good bitterness. No hint of the sweeter elements of the aroma at all. The aftertaste is very dry, with a hop tang to it, again no feel or taste of the aroma’s toffee sweetness. All in all, a good bottled bitter. I don’t think this is a Pale Ale as listed, but I’ve been wrong before!

Copper brown...clear....frothy white head...light lacing
Aroma is light...some spicy hop....sulphur...bit metallic....not great
Taste - spicy hops...bit of caramel malt...hint of yeast...not much going on...watery
Palate - soft carb...thin...light bitter.....Finish - light spicy hops....bit metallic
Overall - This was 3.6% - just bog standard English bitter - somewhat below average.

Bottle from Morrisons. Burnt sienna pour with a white head. Raisin and dark fruit aroma. Fruity flavours with a splash of raisin and baked apple. Not bad.

Bottle at home. Pours a rich, orange-amber with a bubbly white head. Has some herbal hops on the nose. Flavor is lightly sweet with some light, bready malts, earthy and dry bitterness. Light bodied with average carbonation. A bit of very mild toffee or caramel in the finish with a pronounced, dry hoppiness. There’s some more earth and bread, too. An OK beer overall, certainly on the bland side, but OK.

500ml bottle, 3.6%. Pours dull brown with a small head. Aroma is grass, skunky and maybe some caramel. Caramel malt. Metallic aftertaste. Beer flavoured water.
