Description
Amazing beers, plenty of creativity and a good portion of urban zest for life: these are the most important ingredients for our success. As Vienna’s oldest brewery, we have been known for having the highest quality and an extraordinary diversity of flavour for over 180 years. Our brewery resides in the heart of Vienna and has developed into a pulsating event location in accordance with our cosmopolitan flair. Here, in the heart of Ottakring, culinary and culture blend into a unique, delicious mixture.

The Ottakringer Brewery is the last remaining large Viennese brewery, and also one of the last large, independent breweries in Austria. This independence is extremely important to us as a family-run company. Our approximately 150 employees do everything in their power to keep it that way. The most important keys to our success are high-quality products, a wide variety of beers and our hunger for life, which has become our trademark.

(Sampled from 50 cl can, thanks rickgordon!) Strong artificial lemon scent. Color is of water with a small touch of lemon. Sweet artificial lemon taste with a malty sweet aftertaste. No bitterness. Very wierd, why make this?

0.33l green bottle purchased at some Spar store in Graz Golden colour, tiny white head that went away fast. Very faint aroma, maaaaybe some hops and malt. Quite tasteless, weak maltiness and salty pumpkin seeds present in the aftertaste that just don’t fit in all that well. Hops ? Almost missed them at first. Yup, they’re there, but they just aren’t all thet stellar. I’m more with the Danes on this one than with ozujsko and KnutAlbert. I don’t find it deserves more than 2.4, and I feel that even that’s a bit streched. It didn’t impress me at all.

Bottled, alc. 4.5%.
Red-ruby-brown color, small mostly vanishing off-white head. Malty, mash aroma. Malty flavor, strong taste of wort - there is even similarities to low alcohol beers. Not very typical Dunkel. Dry aftertaste.

For a cheapo beer that comes in a tall boy, this is actually pretty good. A good number of these will get you pretty happy and they are easy to drink as well. Not a complex beer, but a simple, light, refreshing beer that is mad cheap (I think it was a euro for a bottle).

Bottle. Clear dark golden colour, no head. Malty flavour, a little bonbon. A bit boring for bock, not very flavourful.

Can, purchased in Vienna, March 2006. Vegetable aroma. Light gold color. There is very light malt and corn in the flavor. Just a little sweet. Good medium palate; and it stayed fresh in the can.

0.5l bottle courtesy of ozujsko (thanks!). A fancy looking bottle and label with a fancy looking cap. Hmm. Poured a honey-like golden colour with a big thick head that went away at a medium pace leaving tons of lacing. The nose was "deep malt", dust and some alcohol. Sweet taste, but not really pleasant. Some very good malt, but that’s overshadowed by the nasty interplay of hops and alcohol that tastes like something that would come out if some inept schnapps maker decided to make a hops schnapps. A low, persistent alcoholly bitterness that gets revolting too soon. Alcohol in the aftertaste. It seems that either they have problems with consistency or that this is a true love/hate beer. My first bock.... pity. I really wanted to like it.
