Description
When the young Viennese banker Franz Schaup started brewing beer in 1858, he did not expect his small brewery to develop into one of the most successful breweries in Austria over the years.

In the meantime, the Zipf brewery near the Attersee has a proud 13 beers and 3 types of hops, the refreshment with hop lemonade for adults, to their range. A total of 170 employees work directly at the location in Zipf. They are the ones who ensure that everything runs smoothly every day and are responsible for a large part of the success of the Zipfer brand.

Despite the numerous technical innovations and a merger with Brau Union Österreich AG in 1970, the careful use of resources and brewing with natural hops were always in the foreground.

50cl Bottle from Achelse Kluis. Hazy amber orange colour, lasting dense fluffy head. Aroma of sweet banana and fruity esters and caramel. Flavour is sweet, banana and caramel, cloves, fruity. Light sour finish, mostly from the CO2 I think. It’s very straightforward, but well executed. My kind of Dunkelweizen.

(bottle) Hazy, brown colour with a huge tanned foamy head. Slightly sweet and sourish citrus-fruity aroma with notes of banana and a delicate toasty elements and moderate spicy, mostly clovy phenols in the background. Mildly sourish flavour, light to medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Fruity malty and moderately wheaty taste with clovy spices towards the slightly tart and minimal bitter finish (13.VIII.09).

Bottle. Banana, clove, sour wheat malt aroma. Cloudy yellow-brown color color with large head. Wheat malt flavor with only a slight hint of banana (minimal phenols). A straight forward wheat beer with little typical weizen characteristics.

Bottle, 5.0%. Quite clovey and citric flavour. Also quite sweet. Cloudy pale yellow colour. White head. Teaish aftertaste. Promising at first, but the flavour fades away in the finish.

Can, 5.4%. Lagery aroma, hint of hops. Almost clear golden colour. Good stable white head. The flavour has a little bisquity malt and spicy hop flavour, but also some rough flavour hop. There is even a little hop bite in the finish, but without the fresh hop flavour that should come along with it.

50cl bottle from Sainsburys. Usual cloudy amber weissbier appearance with a billowing white head; heavy carbonation; pleasant aroma of wheat, banana and spice; refreshing creamy citrus flavour with a slightly prickly mouth feel; then rather thin and watery with a dry yeasty taste and some subdued banana flavours. Very good.
