Bottle from the Cotteridge Convention. It pours clear deep amber with small beige head. The nose is toasty, bitter-sweet, brown bread and some orange rind. The taste is toasty, earthy, brown bread, orange rind and a lick of sherbet in the background. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not a whole lot to it, but it sure drinks easy.

4.2%ABV Bottle conditioned (500ml): bottle number 136, BBD 02/2013, so a bit overdue when opened at home on 26 Apr 2013 and poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard. It was a gusher: a lesser man would have drain poured it, but I’m a mean twat and wanted my moneys worth: bet my guts will thank me tomorrow! The head filled the tankard, huge great thing: a golden amber body sat on the bottom of the glass and I slowly tried to put liquid in while watching the more and more foam rise out of the bottle neck. Surprisingly the beer was clear and bright but the vinegar fly had got in and I couldn’t bring myself to finish the pint. My scores are therefore coming out as average: if i see this beer again I’ll re-do it.

4% ABV, 500ml bottle conditioned: BBD 1 Mar 2013. Poured at home on 9 Apr 2013, so a bit late. Bottle numbered 136. A large biege head sat on top of a clear amber body with carbonisation bubbles rising through it. The initial smell and taste said ’Home Brew’ to me but luckily it got better as I settled into my stride. Pine hop nose and taste, with some maltiness just under the surface, yeasty esters also about in both the aroma and mouth. It went down very nicely with some Red Leicester cheese. Nothing to sing about with this beer but there is nothing wrong with it either: a ’run of the mill’ UK session ale that isn’t going to upset anyone.
