A recent purchase from a distributor that helps keep me in Belgian brews. This 33 cl bottle will be served into my Great Heights snifter. I determine a mahogany brown body with an assertive parchment brown head. I lift for a smell, candied fruit, cherries and bread dough. But the taste is why I am here. Raisins, biscuit, dates, a vinous quality. Less sweet than expected from the nose, actually more a sour note. Creamy. Goes in a different direction that makes it interesting but definitely not one of my favorite dubbels.

Bottle at Quinns. Dark red brown colour with small beige head. Aroma is fruit cake, treacle, sweet, caramel. Taste is dark fruit, sweet cake-like, and boozy. Bit of chocolate. Medium to full bodied with a rich finish.

Bottle at home. Slightly cloudy blonde colour, small white head. Aroma lots of tripel, Belgian yeasty, gueuze funk, bit boozy. Taste is sweet tripel, with just a touch of sourness in the background. Think age has dimmed the gueuze element. Left this too late, but have had it before so can remember. Fair bit of fruit, apricot, quite full bodied. Bit like a tripel with a slight sourness. Maybe past its best, so a bit harsh.

Bottle. Blonde with a dash of orange. Grapefruit and a hint of wood in the soft gueuze-like aroma. Lemon, malt and flowery hops and a hint of leather in the flavor. The gueuze is more prominent as the tripel flavors. It is a good mix, deceptively drinkable. Liked it very much.
