Can @ home, courtesy of my great friend Charlie. Pours a deep brown appearance with a lasting tan head. Aroma is full of cocoa powder, a bit of caramel, chalk, and some dark fruits. Fairly soft on the tongue. Well balanced that’s just slightly sweet with just a hint of alcohol on the back end. Definitely some raisin/plum notes in there. Really smooth and easy to drink.

At Beer Dabbler, 2014, one of my few ratings in the cold. This drinks pretty good. A thick, heavy beer. Alcohol in the aroma, flavor, and present on the palate. Good roasted malt and the hops are there. The rum barrel worked well, much better than a bourbon barrel.

Intense pine and caramel nose, subtle rosehip note. Cloudy amber, thick head, good lacing. Lemon and pine flavor, whole orange at midpalate, finishes with grapefruit peel and lemongrass. Light body, slightly tangy, considerably bitter. Superb balance and intensity, full of nuance. I could totally rate this higher, but I feel like I’m getting carried away. I wish I could get this more often.

On cask @ Indeed. Pours a hazy dark reddish orange appearance with a creamy brown head. Actually, spicy, quite nice pepper spicy, ginger, light citrusy, slight toasted malty aroma. Creamy mouth feel. Pretty spicy with a fair burn on the finish. Lime, hot pepper, celery, ginger, tangerine flavor. Honestly, the pepper burn is quite nice and pretty intense.

On tap @ Indeed. Pours a hazy dark orange appearance with a white head. Heavy sage, very herbal / leafy, a bit citrusy, lightly toasted aroma. Very weedy / sage, grassy, spicy, tangerine flavor. Way too much spice.

On tap @ Indeed. Pours a black appearance with a thin tan head. Anise, dark chocolate, vanilla, coconut, slightly boozy, a bit woody aroma. A touch thin. Very rich dark chocolate, somewhat piney bitter hoppy, caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, rum flavor. Good.

On tap @ Indeed. Pours a cloudy ruby maroon appearance with an off white head. Kind of medicinal, black cherry, light raspberry, sort of herbal / weedy, strange aroma. Goopy, dull black cherry, slightly tart, brown sugar, light anise flavor. Bizarre and not that enjoyable.

12oz can pours a watery black with some creamy beige head. Nose is odd, whole wheat flour, dusty, a little meaty, some roast mushroom, some dark chocolate. Flavor is malty, some pepper, some mushroom, bread crust, a little cherry, molasses. Dry finish. So so.

Can courteay of TheHoff43: Mild allspice aroma. Cloudy ochre, medium yellow head. Very little flavor, slight astringency. Malty tartness toward the back end of the palate. Definitely unremarkable when sampled cold or quaffed. Disappointing even for the style.

Can courtesy of TheHoff43: Hoppy charcoal and pine. Mahogany, medium tan head. Dry, char flavor with the bitterness coming more from the malt than hops. Hops are piney in nature, but really more in the background than anything. Medium body. A bit too dry for my taste.
