Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a gold hue an an off-white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma is musty with grains and grass that is backed by a bit of crispness. Flavor is grassy up front with a musty grain backing. Nothing special.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best by 9/17/2012. Pours fairly crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a good 1-2 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some pretty good lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, biscuit, molasses, maple syrup, roasted nut, toast, toffee, raisin, and light herbal; some alcohol appears as it warms. Some pretty nice and well balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of caramel, toffee, molasses, toast, biscuit, raisin, roasted nut, earth, herbal, and light maple syrup. Lingering notes of caramel, molasses, raisin, toast, and nuttiness on the finish for a short bit. Flavors are pretty good, but they aren’t as robust or balanced as I was hoping; hardly any maple flavor in the taste. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Feels a bit thin for a 9% beer, but it is good enough. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a pretty good imperial brown ale. Some nice flavors with decent balance; and quite smooth to drink for the alcohol level.

4.6%. Hazy gold beer, little white head. Light dry palate. Dry malt. Mild fresh orange and then a little grapefruit. Finishes dry and fresh. There is a nice flavour here but the beer is stupidly dry.

Hazy amber beer, little white head. Crisp palate turning softer, well balanced. Good malt base for some mildly bitter orange marmalade hops. Finishes with creamy malt and a little bitterness in the aftertaste. Tasty little beer.

Hazy amber beer, tidy small white head. Light orange on the nose. Crispy palate. Semi dry malt and fresh marmalade orange hops. Malt turns creamy before the finish which has more fresh orange. Nice!

Bottle @ home. Orangish golden appearance with a cream colored, bubbly head that dissipates quickly. Spicy, carbonated, soapy/floral, orange citrusy aroma. Tangy, nasty citrusy, orange fruity, spicy floral, potpourri flavor that’s quite carbonated. Unfortunately, it has a thick, syrupy, acidic, bubbly mouthfeel and has a nasty incense flavor. This is the worst local saison I’ve had this year and I’ve had a number of them. Hard to finish on a night that’s featured Shock Top Raspberry and Bud Light Platinum.

I went into this without any expectations - when a local brewery releases a saison, I feel compelled to try it - pour is hazy apple-cider in color - fizzy at first, but the head completely dissipates, leaving a beer that looks almost completely still - nose is of overripe, almost rotting fruits (apple, pear, white grape), with some slight sour acidity and some dusty yeast notes - watery on the palate - lightly sweet at first, but becomes moderately acidic through the middle - mildly lactic - some flavorless yeasty notes - some apple, grape and light graininess on the tail end, with lingering acidity that borders on tasting like vinegar - simultaneously messy and boring - thank goodness so many of my local stores sell single bottles.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark brown color, medium sized off-white head. Aroma was roasted bitterness, with a touch of earthy hops. Flavor was burnt grain, with some toasted elements, okay.
