Can. Could be a pleasant surprise this one, as I wouldn’t expect a dark beer from Turkey. It looks quite nice, clear, copper-colored and with a nice beige head. The aroma on the other hand is boring and industrial, with grain, hay and some caramel. The flavor isn’t much better, malty and grainy as it is, with some roasted notes as well. Thin to medium body and a grainy, lightly roasted finish. Definately not worth sampling again. (070213)

50cl bottle from Tesco Pale straw with a minimal white head; lively carbonation; sweet hoppy aroma with traces of sulphur; quite full in the mouth, predominantly sweet with a touch of hops at the end.

Aroma of hop, corn? and chlorine? Something unusual. Clear and golden with a white head that isn’t and barely was. There is light lacing. Very light. Very light flavor, a bit sweetish, not really from corn. Medium mouthfeel, mild carbonation. There’s a bit of hop at the finish. Not your Czech pilsener, but head and shoulders above the typical American mass market lagers. I think it could replace Corona any day at the beach.

If you’re drinking regularly when in Turkey then this would be my suggested beer of choice. I was only ever able to find this in bottle but fortunately I was able to find it in the vast majority of bars in Istanbul. Pours dark brown with a lively head initially that soon subsides. Aroma was mostly of malt, little else detected. There was a continuing soft carbonation to each mouthful but this didn’t particularly detract from what was a nice, tasty beer some raisiny flavours, maybe a slight hint of liquorice, the maltiness was e=ver present, but the one interesting thing for me was that this really didn’t come across as a 6.1% beer and as such was very easy drinking. Not bad at all.

Bottled. A pale yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of grass and grain. The flavor is sweet with a dry cardboardy note being most dominant, but also with light notes of malt and a sour brewing cereal note, leading to a slightly hoppy end.

Bottle, clear beatiful golden colour, sweetness and biterness complementing each other, smooth abd very refreshing, uniquely mediterenean lager.
