Description

Bottle shared. Slight hazy golden with white head. Soft yeast up front with some yoghurt as well. Light malty, more yoghurt, dry oak, lime, gooseberries. It's a nice mix of slightly dry malts, tannic wood and soft fruits. Over medium sour, lighter sweet and bitter. Solid medium bodied. Pretty tasty and refreshing, easy drinker except for a slight rough puckering sourness in the finish. Like it.

24/IV/21 - 37.5cl bottle @ home, BB: see cap, nothing on the cap (2021-324) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!
Pretty cloudy bright red to carmine red beer, small creamy off-white to light pink head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: very fruity, lots of blood orange, citrus notes, somewhat funky, hibiscus, bit yeasty, spicy, malty character, grains. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: grapefruit, blood oranges, soft bitterness, pretty dry, some tannins, lemon juicy, more hibiscus, nice acidity. Aftertaste: pretty dry, fruity, lots of oranges and orange peel, little bitter, citric acidity, sour cherries, tannins, pretty bitter, peach skin, dry, lemon juice, very nice one!

Pours rather clear, dark red. Medium sized pink head. Scent is cherry, but not as fruit-forward as you'd think. Wheat is very recognizable. Taste is full-on sweet, cherry (syrup) think of candy and 'poepegattekes' rather than the actual fruit. Very sweet, sugary ( more than just regular suger, I think some mild usage of the likes of stevia ) Definately to sweet and sugary for my taste.

Disappearing flamingo pink head over deep flamingo red beer, spectacular. Wild yeast, citrus, indeed bloodorange, wood, hibiscus. Sour citrus, definitely blood orange, and the best kind of wild yeasts. Citrusfestival as few. Not light at all, despite acidthinning. Very well-carbonated, fruitslick; refreshing despite the ABV. Simply excellent!

The follow-up to Nørse Man, so a second sour ale brewed by Alvinne and Vrijstaat Vanmol – this time with a name referring to a particularly gruesome execution method said to be used by the Vikings a long time ago (though there is no historical proof for this) and containing, well, blood oranges... Strong gusher, so be ware. Thick and mousy, pale salmon-pinkish-tinged white, creamy, membrane-lacing head, cloudy bright deep orange robe with again a salmon pink tinge – and, quite uniquely in my experience, small dots of deep orangey-red blood orange bits floating throughout (no doubt related to the gushing, too). Aroma of lots of blood orange juice and -flesh indeed, rhubarb, sour cream (strongly so), fruit yoghurt, redcurrant, unsugared orange juice, Napoléon candy, halfripe mandarin, vanilla-associated wet oak wood lurking in the background, strawberry wine, green tomato, stale sweat – and this whiff of ‘actual’ iron piercing through. Sour onset as expected, lots of sour cream- and yoghurt-like lactic sourness mingled with considerable citric sourness from the added blood orange – though this ingredient also offers a bit of countering sweetness; blood orange remains the dominant flavour, but more complex gooseberry-, redcurrant- and sour apple-like aspects are at play too. Medium carb, full and smooth body; brioche-bready, even very lightly caramelly malt sweetish core, dried by the overall tartness but maintaining the initial play between inherently sweet and exuberantly sour. A soft woodiness in the end includes retronasal vanilla more than drying tannic effects, while this crisp, sour, colourful citrusiness remains the dominant factor, even over a deeply situated earthy hop bitterish moment. Very bright, refreshing and quite original sour ale, rather unique even (perhaps even more so than its predecessor) – and I do have a weakness for citrus, as long as it feels genuine and natural, which is certainly the case here. A second interesting collab of Vanmol and Alvinne: I hope more are to follow! --- Beer merged from original tick of (collab with) Alvinne Bloedarend on 17 Feb 2021 at 16:20 - Score: Appearance - 4 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 8.
