Description

Bottle from FinestBelgianBeers. Pours a nice dark brown, a touch of red with a thin beige head. Nose is fairy sweet, fig, fruit cake with a touch of alcohol and spice. Taste is of liquorice, syrup, sugars and dark fruits. slight hint of burnt roast/coffee. By the end of the bottle this beer was way way too sweet for me. Did not enjoy

Quadrupel by Vrijstaat Vanmol, one of the more recent additions to their range, bottle at In De Verzekering Tegen De Grote Dorst. Thick and frothy, pale yellowish 'ecru', mousy, stable head over a clear mahogany-caramel brown beer with rusty-reddish hue. Aroma of toffee, Ersatz chocolate, brown bread, muesli, treacle, candied dates, baked banana, iron, chewing gum, hazelnut paste, apple peel, ruby port, vague coffee grounds, hint of chlorine. Sweet onset, very sweet even with clear blonde sugariness, notes of candied fig and banana, very bubblegummy, fizzy carb, very caramelly, smooth and bit resinous malt sweetness with a toasty bitterish finish supported by herbal, tea-ish hop bitterishness and highlighted by warming, port-like alcohol; the sugary sweetness and bubblegummy effect linger. Sweet, smooth and accessible quad, but perhaps a bit too thin and too 'easy' for this style.
