Description

24 November 2018. 5de Winters Bierfestival Waregem. Deputy Taster: Anke. Vanmol's attempt at a Quadrupel, with the aim of making it accessible. Not to be confused with their Me Against IBU, made for user Kraddel's 10K ratings, and a whole other beer anyway. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a slowly thinning, off-white head. Aroma of pear syrup, molasses, candied prune & orange, cold tea with a dash of sugar, dough, burnt caramel, licorice, amaretto. Taste is medium to heavy malty sweet, yet not cloying and actually remaining subtle, with notes of syrup, dough & candied fruit; further balance is established by a medium spicy bitterness, hint of licorice & a herbal note of tea; faintly toasted in the back. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, a bit spicy too, lingering caramel & dough, and some warming herbal liqueur or amaretto alcohol. Full body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Accessible in that it's quite an easy drinker, perhaps a tad too easy in terms of the palate, but some might find this not sweet enough.
