Description
The history of the brewery begins in 1821, when Messrs Wauters, Faseert and Neyt founded the Halve Maan brewery in Hulst. The Hulsterse Brouwers persist in brewing top-fermented beer. Even when all other Dutch breweries brew Pilsener, traditional beer still flows from the kettles in Hulst. In 1968, the brewery in the city center of Hulst was closed and the cellar rights were sold to Paul Vermeersen, who before then was a distributor of Hulster beer.
In 1989, a new brewery was put into use on the Absdaalseweg. From 2010, the old brewery installation was thoroughly modernized. In 2016, the name “Beer Brewery Vermeersen” was adopted. The brewery is currently focusing on brewing beautifully balanced beers from, as far as possible, local ingredients for the Zeeland Market.

0.25 l bottle from 'Jumbo' (Breskens), best before January 2023. Slightly hazy, golden amber with a thin, frothy almost stable, white head. Sweetish, gently fruity-floral, slightly yeasty and a bit spicy aroma of orange peel, wheat, clove, some banana and a touch of coriander. Hardly sweet, gently bitter, fairly dry, moderately fruity-floral, slightly spicy and a little yeasty taste of wheat, clove, orange peel, some coriander and traces of banana, followed by a short, gently bitter, rather dry, slightly yeasty and a bit chalky finish. Thin to medium body, quite effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Very decent Wit, absolutely well-balanced, nicely dry and not as perfumy as many others.

@home poured into a small chalice. Hazy pale golden colour, small moussy white head, mostly diminishing, some yeast circles remain, light lacing. Aroma wheat, yeast, coriander, faint lemon, grass. Taste medium sweet and slightly bitter, light sourish accents, grainy, yeast, coriander. Light body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, sweetbitter aftertaste with slightly increasing sourish accents towards the finish, spidcy notes, bit dusty, atypical wit, refreshing, decent.

Donkergeel tot oranjekleurig bier met schuim. Smaak is kruidig zoet met iets van koriander, wat banaan en een wat metallisch smaakgevoel in de mond. Desondanks gewoon een goed bier.

@home poured into a chalice. Opaque deep ruby brown colour, small stable creamy beige head, good retention and lacing. Strong sweet aroma, sweet malt, caramel, molasses, honey, candy sugar. Taste light heavy sweet, some malty bitterness, caramel, candy sugar. Medium body, oily to watery texture, soft carbonation, mild sweetbitter aftertaste, caramel, sugary, a beer that lacks strength and zest, average dubbel.
