Bottle, 13C. Jet black with a dense cm of tan head that never quite disappears. Aroma of milk chocolate, lean red wine, rich mocha, oak - straight away obvious this is a transformed by barrel beer, not a wet spirit barrel beer. Roasty and a bit fudgy with a (H & V-esque) Welsh Cake note. Stentorian bitter roasted and dark chocolate flavours gradually take over and are just softened a bit by vanilla and oak. Excellent.

Aromas of grapefruit, pine, caramel and toast leading to a really gutsy taste with loads of hops and malt. Very enjoyable.

Loads of pine and stone fruit in the aroma. Very smooth mouthfeel with a hint of caramel and a nice big load of pine-flavoured hops. Easy drinking nine percenter, but not incredibly memorable.

As good a place as any to expound upon my overarching Star Wars theory: the whole thing was designed by George Lucas to refute the auteur theory of cinema. Can. Almost clear gold with a 2cm white head. Aroma of mandarin, pineapple, crackers. Some grapefruit and pine. Clean, dryish but there's firm pale malt there too. Quite punchy citrus with medium high bitterness. Enough to keep you interested but not so much as to be wearing.

(On tap - called American IPA now, according to brewer’s website). Clear amber brown with good white head. Aroma of toffee and pine. Medium body with good fine carbonation. Nice balance of caramel and hop bitterness. Good bitter finish. Citrus notes at start. Very drinkable.

2021 version is 7% ABV. Bottle. Lovely deep clear red with a dense beige head. Aroma is woody with cherries, balsamic vinegar, mellow apples, a hint of chocolate. Sour but soft and creamy textured with some acid notes creeping through. Some of the fruit is sharp and some remains sweet. Oak gives structure. Fine drop.
