GBBF Day 3. Cask. The annual Harrisoni/madmitch76 walkabout. Clear amber beer, small bubbly white head. Palate is light and mildly crisp. Light caramel and a touch of paper in the malts. Touch of dried fruits. Light finish. The nice condition on this beer struggles to elevate some fairly bland flavours.

Cask at the Prince Albert, Ely. Golden brown with a fluffy white head. Scent of nuts, wet bark, autumn berries. Fruity, woody taste with a drying bitter, slightly turpentiny finish. Pretty good.

Cask at the Townhouse, Ely. Mid-brown, almost clear, with a crown of creamy head. The nose provides malt, walnut, wood polish and a hint of rosewater. Fruity sweet and slightly woody taste, followed by a juicy balanced finish with a suggestion of strawberry. I enjoyed it.

Cask at the Emperor, Cambridge. Light to mid-gold with a fairly big white head and masses of lacing. Grapefruit and lime with a touch of soap. Taste is bittersweet and moderately citrussy. But there’s that soapy note again (sigh). Good beer, but why do so many goldens taste so soapy? (I know why, but I want to know why it isn’t fixed). Still quite good despite its faults and probably not being in the best condition.

Cask at the Townhouse, Ely. Golden brown, almost clear, with a healthy white head. Light lemon and peach aroma. Bittersweet and spicy taste. Finish is incredibly bitter. Ginger, citrus and turpentine in the aftertaste. A solid beer from one of my ’mixed bag’ breweries.

Gravity dispense at the Happy Man, Spring Beer Fest, 20/03/15. Golden amber with moderate off white edgeing. Nose is caramel, candied fruit peel, earthy notes, light spice, straw. Taste comprises caramel, biscuit, light tropical notes, mandarin. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, earthy hop bitterness in the close. Ok bitter, peppered with earthy hops and faint tropicana.

Cask handpull at White Hart Newenden. Gold amber clear beer lasting white head. Some sherbert hop some earthiness. It’s an ok hoppy golden bitter. Some dry sherbert not exactly bitter. Its fine. Ok condition.

Cask at The Empress, Romsey Town area of Cambridge, Saturday 20th December 2014. Pours clear amber good clarity. Flat and boring. I never had high hopes for this beer but still disappointed as it is at best a below average effort. To be fair to the pub it is in good nick, its just a bit poor really. A6 A4 T5 P2 Ov10 2.7

Cask gravity at the Watford beer festival 2014. Oily black opaque pour with a fleeting head. Aroma is big and fresh coffee grounds, earthy and some milky choc. Flavour is smooth roast, stale coffee, bit of dark choc. Lingering coffee with a bit if berry fruit. Palate is milky, moderate carbonation. Very smooth a flavoursome. Quite rich.

Cask gravity at the Watford beer fest 2014. Orange light amber coloured pour with a lasting loose greyish head. Aroma is wet grass. Silage, stale grains and bit of spicy rye. Flavour follows, wet grass, and sweet nutty malt. Palate is watery, thin and sweet. Weird beer. Not a fan.
