Description
Brixton Brewery is one of London’s established craft breweries, making beer in the heart of one of London’s most colourful and famous neighbourhoods. We were founded in 2013 by two local couples, Jez and Libby and Mike and Xochitl, but our shared passion for beer started years before that, when we met in the old Hive Bar (now Craft Beer Co. Brixton), and bonded over newborn babies, and a dream of opening a brewery. We reckoned that every great neighbourhood deserves a great brewery, and we wanted to bring one to Brixton.

In 2017 Brixton Brewery announced the biggest news in its short history. That it had partnered with Heineken UK in a deal that would enable the business to open a second site in Brixton, boost capacity nearly tenfold from its 3,000hl site to up to 30,000hl, and significantly grow its team as a result.

As per 2021, Brixton is 100% owned by Heineken.

Brixton now only carry out small-scale brewing. Production brewing moved to Beavertown in September 2024.

330ml bottle @ Blind Tiger, Shrewsbury. Pours hazy orangey amber. Small white head. Taste is bitter caramel, biscuit and earthy malt. Not a lot of fruitiness coming through. A bit average.

Bottled (AbM). Black colour, small beige head. Aroma is chocolate, some mild bready and roasted notes along with dark ripe fruits to it. Flavour is quite similar, but also has some dark berries to it. Easy to drink and quite a nice session beer too.

33cl bottle into a thistle shaped Gordon’s glass on 31st Dec 2015, my 6th beer of an English tasting session I am having with myself. Deep, dark and foreboding body with a full and lasting tanned crown on top. Rich and Stouty in nature with a smooth yet robust malty base. Nice.

Handpull cask at the Crown & Anchor, Brixton. Amber, ever-so-slightly hazy. Tidy little off-white head on top. Grass, grapefruit and turpentine on the aroma. Taste starts sweet but quickly turns exceptionally bitter, leading to an impressive face-screwing-up bitter finish. Hints of caramel, raspberry and forest floor in the aftertaste. It’s slightly rough around the edges but I like it. This dirty sexy little beer works extremely well.

Bottle from Birratrovo, Como, bb 17.05.2016
Hazy dark blond color, medium head. Hoppy earthy aroma, citrus fruits and manure. The body is lean, dry, soft; good pale malt base, crackery; good quality from the hops, they are citrusy (Citra), resiny (Simcoe) and pungent/earthy (Galaxy).
Bold, satisfying.

Hazy blond color with generous head. Leafy hop, a bit funky in the aroma. The malt has a bit of cereal profile. The hop is mostly resiny, for accentuated bitterness.
Quite good, surely bold.

Flasche: Deep golden, almost clear, small and lacy white foam, traces of cough-syrup in the dryish fruity-hoppy nose; solid dry bitter-sweet flavour, pretty light bodied; slightly lingering dry bitter-piney finish. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit unbalanced…

Poured from keg at Craft Beer Co St Marys Axe. Shared with Finn. Filmy layer, spotty lacing, clear amber-gold body. Mixed aromas of fresh and dried fruits. Dried fruits, grapefruit and lemon to the taste buds. Rounded bitter ending. Well bodied. Tasty version of the style (London 30.11.2015).
