Draught Towering dark beige head over ruby-amber shot dark beer, and in fact, more lace than beer. Liquorice, dark bread, bit sweetish smelling, but also dry straw and dried hops. Very dry, near empty flavour. Active coal, liquorice - if especially retronasal. Light sourish onset of each sip. Very slick, if not very well-bodied. Abbey beer, and a (relatively) empty flavour? Difficult to reonciliate, IMO. I would, OTOH, accept this as a good sweet stout...

2/II/13 - on tap @ Brugs Bierfestival 2013 (2013-113)

Clear dark brown beer, big aery irregular yellow-beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: cocoa powder, sour red berries, mocha, some chocolate, grains, some caramel. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: syrupy start, mocha, elder berries, red berries, pretty bitter, coffee, woody and dry. Aftertaster: dark chocolate, mocha, coffee, red berries, bit sweet, fruity. Very interesting and complex beer.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a cloudy opaque deep golden with loads of ugly floaties and a creamy white head. Sweet malty and fruity nose. Solid body, very sweet malts and loads of yeast and esters, has a jenever touch leading to a rather alcoholic. 040112

33 cl. bottle sampled @ 18th Christmasbeer festival in Essen. Apparently limited to 120 bottle – sort of wonder what the trick is here, it does feel like a fruit beer to me tastewise, also possible barrel aging? Not a clue & the usually informative booklet doesn’t help either, for some reason the brewer apparently wanted to keep it a mystery *_~ Looks like thick crushed strawberries / raspberries reddish with a small pink head. Smell is lightly boozy, strawberries, candy & glühwine. Taste is strawberry juice, candy, yeast, creamy red berries & fruits, lactic, herbs & flowers. Tad lightly watery, murky strawberry juice mouthfeel. Sort of digging it, intriguing.

Sampled at OBER Kerstbierfestival 2012. Murky pinkish to brown (yep, I really mean this) color, small pinkish head. Smell and taste are both weird: fruity sweetness of strawberry and blossom combined with herbs or spices. Pretty sharp taste, too much for my liking.

Sampled at OBER Kerstbierfestival 2012. Dark brown color, small beige to light brown head that lasts for a decent while. Not that much aroma or taste, would have expected more porto to clearly manifest itself. Not enough barrel ageing imo, but it still is a nice beer. Weird, in some ways average beer but somehow I still quite like it.

Bottle sample @ 18de Kerstbierfestival, Essen 2012.

Bottle sample @ 18de Kerstbierfestival, Essen 2012.
