Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Poured into a shaker pint glass. Rich black color with a nice tan head. Decent lacing. Smells of cacao, prune, star anise, tobacco and coffee. Tastes the same with some vanilla and pepper present. Roasted malt flavor in there as well. Not as rich as some other stouts with an oily mouthfeel. Nice smooth finish though. Slightly boozy as it warms up. --- Beer merged from original tick of Lion Stout on 15 Jul 2018 at 21:41 - Score: 7. Original review text: Backlog

New Beer Distributors, NYC: pours gold with white head. Aroma is sugar, corn, but nothing off. Taste is pretty sweet. Few off tastes. Not a bad lager. I think I would take this over bud.

Black with lasting, creamy head. Sweet malty aroma with some chocolatey notes. Taste is rich and smooth with flavours of dark malts, sugar and chocolate.

Can @ Vinterslaget på Østersøen, Sønderborg. Pours clear golden with small but stable white head. Clear aroma of yeast and malt, with some hoppy notes. Bitter, hoppy flavour with malty and estery notes. Bittersweetish aftertaste. Acceptable for the style, but probably better on a hot day in Sri Lanka than in Denmark.

Can, 4.8%. OK aroma, mildly bready. Clear golden colour. Good stable white head. The flavour is bready and watery with a mild, slightly rough bitterness. Has a bit of maltiness, especially in the finish. Better than expected.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, honey, bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Mediocre aromas of big fruitiness and moderate pale malt and earthy hop notes; with poor balance and decent strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance and solid robustness of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester notes; with a decent malt/bitterness balance and minimal cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, fairly crisp, and slightly bready mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a pretty mediocre pale lager style. Good balance and solid robustness of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and fairly crisp to drink. Not bad, but not all that enjoyable either.

330ml bottle as from an off license in London. Pours back with nice tan head. Aroma is toffee. Taste is bitter liquorice, coffee, a little tobacco.. would’ve preferred a bit more sweetness really.
