Sample, many thanks to Grumbo and Marek for sourcing this. Pours a clear deep amber brown, loose bubbles making a brief appearance. Aroma of amber malt, toffee sweet. Taste continues along these lines, with a pokey alcohol presence, light bodied with some toffee, nuts and brown bread notes, finishing dry. Ok.

Attractive-looking can at The Coconut Tree, Oxford (which is a really nice, fun little Sri Lankan restaurant by the way). The beer's yellow-gold in colour with a lasting white head and a gentle fizz. Unusually for the style it actually had a decent mouthfeel - soft and smooth, almost comforting. Unfortunately the aroma and flavour are nothing to write home about - sweetcorn up front, followed by a little butter and citrus. I think mild and inoffensive would be the best description, which is still better than a lot of world lagers. It was a good choice for washing down the delicious Sri Lankan food though.

Huge thanks YantarCoast. Appearance: Opaque deep brown to black with a large beige head of decent retention. Aroma: Toasted and roasted malts, dark chocolate, treacle, cream, a hint of prunes.. Taste: Medium sweet, roasted, a lot of dark chocolate, creamy, distant prune. Notable amount of hop. Light plus ending bitterness. Mouth feel: Medium body, average carbonation. Overall: Good stuff. Powerful.

Bottle, 0.33l. Clear copper pour, half finger soapy off-white head. Medium lasting, slight lacing on the glass as it goes down. Malts and grains in the nose, sweet, notes of caramel and herbs. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Thick and oily texture, chewy, good mouthfeel. Sweet malty taste with mild bitter notes in the background. Aroma of lager malt, caramel, herbs and spices. Sugar, alcohol. Grains, mild spiciness. Liquory, subtle lingering alcohol burn. Quite sweet but not cloying. Short to medium lasting finish, dry and boozy. Overall, I expected something much worse. Drinkable but not something I'd go back to. For the style, though, it's quite ok.
