22 oz bomber 2006. Poured a very dark brown with tan head. The aroma was medium in strength smoke Rauchbier (compared to Shlenkerla) type. All I could smell was charred wood embers. There was a nice even flavor of burning wood, burnt malts, some sweet caramel malts and a light smattering of hops. This one could probably age a bit more to even out the smoke and allow for more malt subtleties to surface. Really tasty smoke beer.

2006 Bottle...Many thanks to Milla ..:)....and this beer is dedicated to my Bougie...so the aroma is pretty mild..i get a malty smell and a bit of caramel... and the smell that I couldn’t place at first is the spruce tips...color is a deep amber...the texture is silky and thick...I have never tasted spruce tips in a beer before...its pretty interesting like nibbling on a tree branch and washing it down with a beer...:)...Aroma=5...Appearance=4...Flavor=5...Palate=4...Overall=14

Bottle from Fred Meyer, Portland. Chestnut with lasting beige head. Faint sour, staleish malt aroma. Good toffeeish malt in mouth, toffee and moderate hop finish. Very nice alt style beer.

On Tap @ San Diego Brewing Company. Copper color with thin off white head. Slight aroma of caramel maltiness. Mild flavor with some caramel maltiness mixed with water. Disappointing beer.

12oz bottle. Clear yellow with thin white head. Light aroma of crisp citrus hops, sweet and pale malts. Flavor starts with sweet malts then some crisp hops join the fun. Midway the sweet malts overtake the hops leaving a sweet aftertaste.

2001 Vintage. 16 oz bottle courtesy of bvc. This beerheld up exceptionally well. All of the previous traits shone through, and the campfire smokiness was even more integrated. Lovely beer.
2007 Vintage. 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle, WA. Pour is mostly all black, with just a touch of brownish ruby swirling around. A perfect khaki head sits atop. Aroma of fireplace embers, though a bit wetter (campfire). Taste is really nice, roasty chocolate and coffee malt tones are balanced nicely with the camp fire smokiness. The somkiness completes well beyond the finish. An exceptional beer in this style, would have been wonderful with BBQ. 8,5,8,4,16 (4.1)
2006 Vintage. Sampled at GABF, I loved this beer, certainly my favorite of the smoked genre. 7,4,7,4,16 (3.8)

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 6 Oct) Amber colour with small off-white head. Malty, nutty nose with notes of spicy hops. Malty taste with nuts, dark fruit, dried apricots and a balanced hoppy character in the finish. An allright amber ale but lacking something extra.

Bottled (should have been rating #2000, but due to miscalculation at SBWF, it became #1999). Dark brown opaque colour, minor brown head, which quickly disappear into random brownish floating bubbles. Aroma is leather, roast, malts with a slight hoppy edge. Flavour is roasted malts, smoked wood and some hops balancing up the finish. Quite sticky palate. Aftertaste is pleasant roasted malts.

Bottled. Amber colour, small off-shite head. Aroma is hops, caramel, salt, malts and slight barnyardish hints. Flavour is flowery hops, salt water and grass. Quite full with stuff, but still a boring brew.
