Description
Hammerton Brewery is a microbrewery based in Islington brewing small batch beers with the aim to bring great tasting beer back to the borough and also re-establish the Hammerton Brewery name in London.
Hammerton Brewery originally began brewing in London in 1868. Sadly it ceased to brew in the late 1950s and was later demolished. In 2014, a member of the Hammerton family decided to resurrect the family name in brewing. It also brings brewing back to Islington, a London borough with a great beer making heritage.

On tap at The Rusty Bucket, Eltham. Black pour with a tan head. Rich chocolaty nose, touch of cocoa, raisin, creamy coffee. Taste is dark chocolate, chocolate cake, caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge. Long lasting sweet finish. Liquid chocolate, top stuff 😋

[February 2022] Slight hazy gold/amber with a frothy white head and a hoppy aroma. Lacking bitterness but there’s just a hint of pine going on, and it’s got a fruit malt vibe, and a nice dry finish

440ml can from Bottle and Barrel, Aberystwyth. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a short-lived, fizzy tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate and fake sugar. The flavour is over moderate sweet, with a smooth, somewhat light, watery, chocolate, lactose palate. Medium to light bodied with lively carbonation. This is light, watery and fizzy. I don’t like light fizzy stouts packed with fake sugary adjuncts which is precisely what this beer is.

Very fruity, mango, apricot, peach. Only had a few sips from this one, but will have a few more if I come across it next time.

Bottle (from Ales by Mail). Pitch black colour with a mediumsized foamy brown head. Aroma is ashes, some mild coffee, chocolate and mild toasted tones. Flavour is ashy, some slight chocolate, coffee, roasted notes with mild wooden and some dark berries to it. More a porter, than a stout imho, but still very drinkable.

(Cask at Cock Tavern, Hackney, London, 19 May 2023) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, milky coffee and dark bread. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, coffee, black bread, liquorice, toasted oats and a balanced roasty bitterness. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Smooth, tasty and well balanced. Very nice.
