12 oz bottle. Aroma was mellow, smooth. Notes of hops and malts. Flavor was good, though pretty standard.

Draft: Rank smell of buttery diacetyl. Dark brown, thin yellow head, some lace. Buttery and sour flavor, charcoal finds its way through in the finish. Dunkels, to me, seem to be more suceptible to infection than other styles. This sample is definitely no exception. Bad keg, bad beer.

Draft, however, it was drawn from a Heineken tap marker. The bartender assured me it was Mcsorley’s Irish PA. Mushroom and yeast nose ringed with cherries. Clear rust colored with a thick off-white head, good lace. It tastes quite tart of barley malt and cherries. Soapy finish of grass and cherries. Drinkable and flavorful. No complaints.

Sampled on draft at the Rivertowne Pub this beer poured a medium brown color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma wa ssour, nutty and had a vague cherry presence. The flavor was sour, nutty and had touches of tart cranberry. Odd but not unpleasant fruitiness from the hops. The finish was long, tangy, sour and reminded me again vaguely of cranberries. Ok.

A very nice appearance. Smell is somewhat like slag. Taste is very friendly for a dark beer, even more well behaved than your typical schwartz. Decent carbonation, not flat at all. Actually is more like a dark lager. Has some of that roasty background in there. Finish has good manners for a lager lover. Overall decent beer experience. Not as good as xingu or kuso cerne, but very good.

Looks something like iced tea. Smell is fairly sweet on the olfactory. Somewhat mild but does have this little personality kick to it. Not bad overall and there is enough bitter feel that makes you know you are drinking something more than a lager. Decent amount of carbonation on the palate. Yes, a tad of butter in there but I think thats what you get with many irish ales. Bitterness builds thru the session and culminates with a weird kinda medicinal finish that hangs for a while.

Bottled: Pours a very dark brown with a tan head that dissipates very quickly. Aroma has nutty and roasted malt smells about it. Taste has chocolate notes and a little bit of coffee flavor from the roasted malts. Mouthfeel isn’t as thick as a stout of course, but it is still enough for you to feel your beer. Not the greatest, but good enough to session with.

Quickly dissipating head and a dark amber color. Mediocre aroma. Somewhat hoppy. Has a metallic undertone. A little bit of caramel. Not that great. Barely could notice that this is supposed to be an Irish Ale, thought it was a mediocre ESB or EPA.

Location: Picked up a 12 oz. bottle at Gilly's, drank it 3/17/09
Aroma: Smokey, roasted malts, perhaps some licorice
Appearance: Dark, almost black, thin tan head that dissipates quickly
Flavor: Flavors are fairly faint, mostly smoke and malts, nose gives away the taste pretty well
Palate: Medium body, little to the finish other then some lingering smoke
Overall Impression: This one was pretty decent, but unless you just love a smokey beer, you'd be hard pressed to call it better then decent. I guess it's a fairly new offering (at least new to bottles), as I'm only the 9th rater.
