On tap at McSorley’s NYC on 29th July 2011. Quite mild-flavoured, light hoppy and slightly caramelly in aroma and in mouth, refreshing zingy texture but shortlived bittersweet end. A quencher on a day when it was 32C in the shade.

Purchased at Vas Foremost in Chicago, IL; enjoyed during my band’s LP release show and also at home nursing an allergic pink eye outbreak (beer treats it, you know). This tasted better to me at the show, but it’s still pretty good. Aroma of bready malts, not really much else. Appearance a cloudy amber with a thin white head. Taste is pretty creamy for a pale ale, can definitely taste the bitterness of the hops balanced by the crisp malts. Not really any off flavors in my opinion, just a really good, straight up pale ale.

Sampled on draft at Olde New York in State College PA this beer poured a black color with a large foamy beige head that lingered and produced some lacing. The aroma was faint dry malts, vanila and malted milk. The flavor was dry, toasy and lightly bitter wtih faint notes of vanilla and cream. The finish was medium length, dry and toasty vanilla. Medium body and fairly creamy. Decent.

On tap. Poured clear dark brown with a light brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma was full of bread with some chocolates and dark fruits and a hint of dryness. Flavor was similar with bread and dark grains with dark fruits and chocolate in the finish.

Thanks to my parents that brought me back a 6-pack of this from the States. They were looking for a local brew, but this is what they got. Still looks decent, with a rich caramel-copper colour and an off-white head that is creamy and creates thick lacing all around. Good retention and a 1mm film coats the brew. Nice slow carbonation and mild grain aroma with a touch of hop. Smooth mouthfeel with a taste of grain, caramel malt and light bitterness in the finish. Nothing too crazy here, but quite a good Irish Ale for a macro brewer.

This schwartz poured a deep black colour with a big, frothy, tan coloured head. To the nose there are scents of earth, molassass, caramel and roasted malt. First taste was smooth but a little watery on the mouthfeel. Flavours of roasted malt, coffee, cocoa and leather. Finish is roasty/malty with a bit of smoke.
