Description
Along the road to Nismes, a stone's throw from Mariembourg, a peculiar building with a copy of a windmill is visible. It was the showcase of a disco that was turned into a brewery by Frédéric Adant in 1998.
At the Brasserie des Fagnes, we brew around 50 different beers per year. Our brews and beers offered for tasting may change according to the seasons. More fruity in spring, light and refreshing in summer, rather amber in autumn with more body and taste, finally more alcoholic in winter with a tendency towards strong browns ... Yes, there is something for everyone's taste at the Brasserie des Fagnes! Some of its beers are only available at the Brasserie des Fagnes. After brewing, fermentation and aging in the tank, they are transferred to storage tanks which are directly connected to the flow pumps in the tasting room.

Bottle from a gift. Dark brown colour, beige foam. Lively carbonation. Malty body with aroma of caramel, brown sugar and spices. Easy drinkable. Not a bad beer in this style.

Tasted as Brassin d’Hiver des Fagnes and as Super des Fagnes Noël. A misty dark chestnut brown Christmas ale with off-white head and light spicy and caramelly profile with dried fruits and some grassy hop bitterness in the finish as well as warming alcohol. Cliché and not outstanding, like their other beers.

Top fermented cherry beer made with cherry coulis and extracts. Off-pink, thick, moussy head, bright ruby red colour, clear. Aroma dominated by a full, ’heavy’, sweet cherry smell (strong impression of candied cherries, as used in pastry and the like) but also rubbery and plastic-like solvents, DMS (cooked vegetable), mushrooms, honey, lemon. Fruity, slick palate, getting more sweet in the middle, sugary and cloying with light sourish touch, virtually no discernible hops, one-sided; and worst of all, the sugary sweetness sticks in the throat. Not for me.

Fagnes’ second, with a thick, beige, moussy, irregular, stable head and very dark burgundy colour, clear. Malty aroma of bread, caramel, chocolate, plums, orange, strawberry, straw, flowers, coriander and subtle liquorice. Malty, dark fruity and bready taste, sweet but not sugary, light sourishness, low hop bitterness in the finish. Okay dubbel.

Typical ’edelbier’ with fruity and somewhat citrussy character, yeasty and soft with spiciness and grassy hops in the finish, coriander noticeable, liquorice more subtle. Decent.

--- Beer merged from original tick of Chevetogne Blonde on 25 May 2018 at 16:48 - Score: 6
