Cask @ Barum Top Inn, Halifax. Blonde with a thin creamy head. Crisp, hopped ale that’s not too stated in flavour, although there’s a small bubblegum sweetness in its nose.

Cask at GBBF 2015. Pale copper, clear, frothy head. Bready, rich malt, light caramel and chocolate, noble-like hops, grass, orange. Sharp citrus hop flavor, plus hay, bit of pine, earth, peppery spice. Light, crisp. Bit metallic. Decent.

Cask at The Hobgoblin, High Wycombe. Amber with a thin white head. Biscuity malts with earth and dry leaf and a quite substantial bitterness. For all the brewery’s claims that this is a mix of old and new, this tastes firmly traditional to me. A competent enough bitter but nothing outstanding here.

Cask at Pilgrim’s Progress (JDW), Bedford. Straw, well-carbonated, with an impressive white head. Light lagery smell of lemonade, cereal and hay. Taste is much improved with the bitter hop making itself known. Long dry finish, a proper ’bitter’ bitter. Nice but short of incredible.

Cask at moon under water jdw Watford. Clear light yellow coloured pour with a thin lasting white head. Aroma is pretty subdued, some tea leaves, light honey, light floral notes. Flavour is composed of semi sweet light grains, little earthy honey, tea bag, palate is medium light, nice cask cask condition. Nothing special but goes down pretty easy.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. A deep glossy mahogany pour with a deep, dense beige head; aroma of drinking chocolate; soft creamy texture in the mouth with an oaty, toasted malt taste, and some carmael; then a silky finish. A refined and very drinkable mild.
