Description
Brewing started behind the Royal Clarence Hotel, and in those days trading as the Royal Clarence Hotel Brewery, in Burnhan-on-Sea in August 1982. A 5 barrel brew plant was used primarily to supply the hotel only. The brewery was taken over in May 1984 and the beers became more available in the free trade. Due to problems with the water supply, the brewery was using that much that hotel guests could not wash, the brewery moved in January 1993 to an old cider mill in West Hewish, Weston-super-Mare. Capacity was tripled during the move and in 2000 work started on upgrading the plant to a 30 barrel brew length. The brewery closed in early 2017 but relaunched shortly afterwards as Pitchfolk Brewery.

Quite the same, but salty licorice also occurs and the chocolate is only in the background.

Bottle. Amber with a medium-sized white head. Aroma of lemon and flowers, light biscuit. Sweet with peaches and a little caramel, lemon and a little pepper. Thinnish mouthfeel, a little overcarbonated. Solid bitter finish. A decent bitter in good nick.

Crosse Keys Spoons. Clear gold beer, residual white head. Tangy dried fruits with an odd estery pear note, banana too, coming through quite strongly. Finishes with sweet orange marmalade and then mild bitterness. Not at all unpleasant but a little off the wall.

Amber..clear..dense white head..some lacing...very little aroma....Taste of caramel and biscuity malts, yeast, earthy bitter hops and an odd offputting component in there I canโ€™t describe...plain taste...Palate - soft carb....thin body..bitter...wheaty.....very dry finish...lingers..weetabix cereal.
Overall - Almost no aroma, taste plain and a bit odd, most of the flavour in the finish. Nothing christmassy about this beer.
