750ml bottle. Cloudy chestnut colour with average to huge, frothy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, off-white head. Concentrated fruity aroma, gooseberry jam, some rhubarb, white grapes, disguised, minimally chocolatey, malty background with a touch of coffee. Taste is chocolately dark malty, notes of coffee, slightly vinous, fruity overtones with notes of gooseberry, white grapes, minimally tart, slightly bitter finish. A bit unbalanced and inhomogeneous, nevertheless a nice, though not fully working combination of flavours.

On tap at the Modern Times Festival of Funk. It pours an amber color with an off white head. The aroma has sour berries with some sweet tarts. The flavor has a good balance of fruity, berry-like tartness and sweeter fruit flavors. Clean. Good stuff.

Bottle (vintage 2008) shared by Manuele Colonna @Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome), thank you very much! Pours deep golden with a minimal off-white head. Aroma of yeast dough, barnyard, moderate citric and fruity notes, oxidation. Flavour is medium to light sour with a minimal sweetness, a bit confused and rough. Medium body, light carbonation. So so...

New Beer Distributors, NYc 750ml: pours light brownish with a white head. Aroma is a lot of wood and cherries and some vinegar. Taste is rather sou. Not really all that sweet. Seems a bit unbalanced to me, as if it does not really know where to go with itself. Plenty sour aftertaste. Not a huge fan.

Bottle sample at Iron Gate. Almost a gusher, but not quite. Clear golden color, massive white head. Aroma has dusty cobwebs, light tannins, rotten overripe cherries. Taste is profoundly earthy, dank, sweaty, dirty, dusty cherries and vanilla. Not for the faint of heart.

New Beer Distributors, NYC bottle: Pours reddish with a very small loose head. Aroma is vinegar, wine, wood, sugar, and some fruitiness. Taste is moderately sour. Carbonation is very light. Sourness maximizes around the finish and libgers on to the aftertaste. Veey drinkable while also being a little intense. Glad to finally have this beer.

I have liked Panil for a long time, especially after finding several beers from them in Florence that I have not seen at home before or since. Light brown color. Very well carbonated, which more and more I think European brewers are getting right. A bit like a saison. Not very strong flavors, and not particularly sour, but there is yeast, mild sourness, and an earthy quality that I enjoyed an found refreshing. The carbonation helps this beer considerably.
