Depp ruby in colour, it is fruit dominated in taste and aroma, but both are mild in character and are in the ’wild’ category as oppose to ’tropical’ fruit styles.

Bottled@GBBF2012. Golden colour, no head. Aroma is fruity, honey and some earthy and herbal notes. Flavour is sweet honey with fruits, elderflower and some mild herbal notes.

On cask at Square Sail, Lincoln UK - looks nice, a good deep ruby body, white head, rich nose of caramel, citrus and a taste of toffee. Very good.

Little 25cl bottle pours slightly murky copper with gold edges and really no head to speak of. The aroma offers up musty malts, aged sweet dark fruity esters and some molasses. The taste is similar with aged sticky maltiness, malt sweetness, some aged prunes and plums and then followed by a mild red wine like tartness. It ends kind of dry. Pretty nice stuff, this.

250 ml bottle courtesy of Marsiblursi. 2005 vintage. Pours hazy reddish brown with no head. Smell is sweet and very malty with sweet dark bread, dates, prunes, figs, caramel, dry wood, alcohol, dry soil, lemon zest, brown sugar and hints of pine. Taste is intense, sweet, very tiny sour and extremely malty with sweet dark bread, figs, dates, caramel, liquorice root, golden syrup, orange zest, toffee, alcohol and hints of moist tobacco. Mouthfeel is intense, sticky sweet, boozy and full bodied. Finish is sweet, tiny bitter and tiny sour with caramel, sweet dark bread, orange zest, prunes, figs, dates, alcohol and golden syrup. Intense and impressive.

Cask at Lattice House, King’s Lynn
Dark amber color. Light malt aroma, with very light impression of apples. Smooth and round mouthfeel, under carbonated, with decent malt and caramel flavor, good body, correct bitterness, small residual sweetness. Tastes like a Strong Ale, more drinkable, and without the vegetables that usually go with it.
Very pleasant choice.

As a part of an extensive sampling of Thomas Hardy vintages from both breweries carried out 8. June 2012. This rating is an average of 04,05,06,07 and 08 vintage. Clear amber body with with a thin layer of beige head or practical no head. Noble aroma of caramel, candy sugar, dry fruit and warming alcohol. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, dry fruit like raisins, spices, plain bitterness and Sherry alcoholic. Full body and long aftertaste. Very nice and balanced.
