One of the more expensive beers at Pub Italia in Ottawa. It just happens to be the only stout I have not tried yet (available there). After having a few Italian lagers with supper, this was great for desert and complete the night. Poured a dark brown colour with lots of red highlights and a big foamy-creamy light brown head. Light dark fruits scent with notes of milk. Hop did come out eventually near the end as it warmed up. Mild roasted malts with decent bitterness in the finish, creating some dryness. After breathing a while, notes of apples appear in the aftertaste. A bit watered-down and not really worth the price, but worth trying once. Expected a bit more of a creamy mouthfeel as it was written "Superbly Smooth" on front label. Also, did not taste the "port" they added in this. Too bad, as I am a fan of port.

Appearance: Clear copper with a big beige head and good lacing
Aroma: Sweet caramel and brown sugar
Taste: Sweet caramel, vanilla and brown sugar
Great, glad I finally got a chance to try these The 2004 was much smoother and mellow compared to the 2006.

2012-05-11, bottle at Danske Ølentusiasters Ølfestival 2012, Copenhagen, 8-4-7-4-16=39
Cloudy amber color, with no carbonation. True barley wine, with malt aroma, sweet, raisins goodness; good and powerful malt flavor, full bodied, sweet but with a correct share of alcohol and bitterness to balance, and light nutty touch.
2011-04-10, bottle courtesy of Jan (fonefan); vintage 2010, 8-3-8-4-16=39
Hazy brown color; minimal head, quickly disappearing. Rich aroma of malt and caramel, with a delicate fruity touch. With such low carbonation, the texture is quite oily; the malt flavor is rich, with caramel, quite sweet, and a nutty touch; in the final it gets almost salty, with some light liquorice too; correct bitterness; the alcohol is evident in its warmth.
Maybe it lacks a bit of character, but very enjoyable.
