Bottle 50 cl. Pours a murky opaque brown with a small off-white head. Nutty aroma, a little yeasty. Medium body, nutty, tart overripe fruit and yeast. Ends dryish. More like an Old Ale really. 280511

Bottle. No head. Red-amber colour. Intense honey aroma. Powerfull vinius flavor. Long great finish. Dark fruit and honey notes. Creamy palate. Only slightly alcoholic. Really nice.

Pours dark brown, with a head that quickly settles into a thin film. But the smell is intriguing, with aromas of thick, sweet conchord jam and blackened malt. But the flavors don’t really assert themselves in the taste; the port comes out mainly in the finish. Disappointing if you wanted a big, ruby taste to go with the name. Very dry for an English stout, the finish accentuates the beer’s thin texture. Great idea, mediocre follow-through. (2/24/09)

Bottled. Hazy brownish amber, no head. Plum brandy aroma. Woody with resiny hops and full body. Malty and chewy with syrupy mouthfeel. Salty finish with warming alcohol. Pretty rough stuff, but also with some shining highlights.

250 ml bottle conditioned, 2010 Vintage, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 12.9%. Cloudy brown colour, minimal beige head, minimal carbonation. Intense and extremely malty and sweetish aroma, notes of oak, and molasses, hints of dark dried fruits. Warming mouthfeel. Intense flavour, strong notes of molasses, oak and extremely thick malt extract, also notes of cough syrup, liquorice and cigar tobacco. Some hoppy biterness in the finish. This is a beer that probably requires 5 - 10 years’ cellaring to (hopefully) obtain a rounded and harmonious character. As "raw" as it is now, it is just too extreme.

0.25l bottle @ Henrik, Bergen. 2006 model, bottle #14081. Pours a thick and murky brown body with absofruitly no head what so ever. Beautiful sweet aroma with cognac, light woody and vinous notes and something that I can only describe as deep chocolate and some sour grassy hints hidden back in the aroma. Really full-bodied and has a extreme trick and rich texture. Near no-carbonation. Really intensely warming this! Slightly woody, deep port, strong dark caramel, rum-marinated raisins and a nice both sweet and bitter finish. Leaving a lingering alcoholic aftertaste. Rich, complex and really tasty, just the way I like it. Two thumbs up for this oldschool barlywine!

275ml bottle from Bottle Shop Canterbury. Deep red beer thin beige head. Slight oxidised. Touch of soap and malty. Its clearly strong in alcohol but only faint burn. Yep pretty chewy. Some good malts and even a touch of ginger burn on the finish. An interesting winter warmer style beer. Wow. Quite a bit of light treacle

Cask at the Wharf. Black colour with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, hop, coffee, malt. Flavour is roasted malt, coffee, butter, coffee. Medium body. OK beer.
