16 oz can. Pours a massive head with a little bit of gunky orange liquid underneath. Lots of chunky things are swimming around in there. Aromas are mostly citrusy. Oranges and grainy caramel. Flavor is sharply bitter with more of a lemon peel hoppiness to it. There is a creamy mouthfeel that seems a little odd.

This brew is a dark brownish-black color with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, chocolate and vanilla. Light-bodied with a roasty malt and vanilla character with some cocoa in the background. The finish is sweet with a short chocolate/vanilla aftertaste. Decent overall.

Pours a hazy orange/gold with a sticky, off white head. Citrus rind hop aroma. Well balanced flavor. Medium bitterness and sweetness. Average.

16oz can courtesy of the Brink Lounge. Hazy, unfiltered orange-yellow-tan. Thinnish white/off-white head. Smooth mellow aroma, clean malt and some mild orange sourdough hops. The lack of filtration works well with this one, giving it some nice, creamy yeast tones that smooth out it already mellow, medium body. A pretty respectable offering, way above par for the style. My only gripe is that this is sold in what I consider a premium price point, while it is a standard ingredient beer. All that aside, this is still well crafted, as has a lot of character.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of vanilla, coffee roast, black licorice, roasted chocolate malt and vanilla bean. Medium body. Nice dry roasted finish.

16 ounce can into imperial pint glass, no canning date. Pours very hazy and cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger foamy off white head with very good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Some minimal spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big orange peel, lemon zest, grapefruit, floral, pine, caramel, grass, and herbal. Pretty good aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of grapefruit, pine, orange peel, lemon zest, floral, caramel, grass, bread, and herbal spiciness. Good amount of spicy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pine, caramel, floral, bread, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a short bit. Good flavor balance; with a good hop/malt balance as well. No cloying flavors, and quite crisp and dry on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy and very crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with pretty much zero warming noticed at all. Overall this is a good pale ale. Good amount of flavor and balance; very crisp and easy to drink. Smooth and quite enjoyable.

Debut tapping at The Beer Bistro. How cool is it that we beer geeks often have a new beer with its brewmaster at the same table telling us about it! Ike Orcutt of Hopothesis filled me in while I was scribbling about this new brewer’s flagship. It’s got an amber gold body that shows off its use of Vienna malts, under a firm one-finger head. Ike said it was intended to be more of an English style IPA, with a bigger malt backbone playing equal parts to the hops and I agree. Still, I can’t but notice a definite use of Pacific hops in this glass. Some of that impression comes from this beer being very fresh. But it does have a welcome, malty, hearty mouthfeel for an IPA. Orcutt says their plan is to "gypsy brew" until they can get their own brewing space in the city, probably next year. And just like that, our town has ANOTHER beer-maker!

can - Pours lightly hazy copper with a small off-white head. The aroma is of caramel malt with some citrus in the background. It has medium to high hops bitterness, pleasant citrus notes, caramel, and a bitter finish. Medium bodied and balanced, it’s a good brew.

Can: Moderately strong aroma of dried leaves and peanut hulls, toffee hints. Hazy orange, relatively large floaties, no head. Dried leaves, subtle orange peel in the background. Solid malt backbone, a bit yeasty. Lemongrass finish. Full flavored APA, decent balance, but tastes stale. Can is undated.
