Description
Although fruit has been grown on the farm at Pershore College since 1954, we began making juice in 1992 as part of a student-led project. Its success led to our first cider being pressed just a year later, and, by the end of the decade, Avonbank Orchard had been established to supply our cider and juice business with a range of traditional varieties.
Originally planted by the National Association of Cider Makers as a development orchard, Avonbank’s unusually diverse crop is at the heart of the blended and single variety craft cider and juice that we make today. Unlike most commercial and high-intensity orchards, we’re not limited to growing varieties based on market demand or the needs of supermarkets. Where we do bring in additional crops, we do so in collaboration with local and trusted orchards in the area. The growers we work with share the same high standards of orchard management practices, and we’re proud to support such important local orchards.

500ml bottle from Gloucester Services farm shop. Pale gold appearance, faint mist. Pleasant nose with farmhouse apple must, natural fruit. Continues to taste, presenting more of a medium dry feel with a solid natural fruit character, with light farmhouse funk and soft tannins. Good stuff.

Sample thanks to minutemat, cheers Mat! Yellowy pale golden colour, short-lived thin white foam head and aroma of apple, caramel hint, and slight mucky note. Taste is fruity, apple, pineapple hint, slightly zingy, with some light funk and citric acidity. Medium bodied, low carbonation, drying finish. Quite drinkable.

500ml bottle from Gloucester Services Farm Shop. Pours clear gold. Sweet aroma with brown sugar and caramel. Taste is sweet with some caramelised apple, very lightly sparkling and clean drinking with no discernible dryness or tannins. Good for what it is.

Bottle from Gloucester Services, M5 (northbound). Deep, rich gold in colour with the odd bubble in evidence. Crisp, yet sweet, apple juice, with a touch of bruised depth and some woodiness. Very easy drinking for the strength, with a dryish finish that left a long-lasting apple after taste. A very good cider.

Bottle from Webbs, Wychbold, Worcestershire, Sunday 6th April 2014 consumed Friday 11th April 2014 Pale gold, lightly sparking, sweet appley aroma. Quite a subtle but decent dessert apple cider, ok the Cox’s clearly offering a little sweetness, a little earthy, slight nutty bite with a little dryness at end. Its a pleasant cider. Bottle at Fin & Loz’s tasting with Jan, Charlotte, Craig, Stella & kids consumed Saturday 22.10.11 I picked this up at Favourite Beers Cheltenham spring 2011 Vanilla and a little cream, soft in the mouth, not that dry. This is a little sweeter than I expected and something of a contrast to the Basque and Asturian ciders that we’ve been tasting. Easy drinking, ok but not the apple flush or as juicy and interesting as I had hope. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0
