Bottle from Bert’s Finally wrangled the cork out and there was no pop. Damn it I got a flat bottle. Pours a inky oily black color with six or seven small bubbles on the edge of the glass. The aroma is outstanding. Light caramelized sugars and a hint of roasted grain with some pretty solid vinous oaked apple coming through. Hints of toasted coconut and alcohol round this out nicely. The flavor is sweet brown sugary chocolate maltiness with some solid vinous apple coming through. Light oak and vanilla finish us off nicely. Thick body with a non existent level of carbonation and a sweet syrupy mouthfeel. I am so bummed this one had no bubbles because it is an otherwise beautiful beer! If I can find another bottle I will adjust my rating.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours a pretty damn clear light golden color with a smallish white head that dissipates almost instantly. The aroma certainly has a lime bite to it. Light pepper and coriander, and a hint of pine sap, with a sweet almost honey like malt and bitter pith round out the aroma. The flavor is light honey like malts with a huge spruce presence that almost feels like its smoked countered with a bitter pithy grapefruit flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick sweet mouthfeel. I was really getting into the keffir up front, but the spruce and grapefruit flavor contrasted just a bit to much for me.

Bottle from Bert’s Pours a clear deep copper with light ruby highlights at the edges and a huge frothy tan head that persists forever. Aromas of caramel and brown sugar with bits of dark bitter chocolate and a touch of earth grape skins, vanilla, and a hint of sherry like oxidation. The flavor is brown sugary with a solid dark fruity presence that is just short of tart. Light chocolate, earth, and a touch of vanilla round out the flavor. Medium body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a slick sweet mouthfeel. Kind of vinous and a shade dry. I love how the subtle barrel notes accentuate, but the base beer seems unable to shine through here.

Bottle purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Portsmouth. Hazy golden ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The aroma is a nice blend of fruitiness and Belgian yeast. Orange peel, apples and pears. Hints of lemon. Some straw. Good yeast body. I like that the brewer doesn’t use much spice. Light to medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Easy to drink and worth a try if you like Wit’s.

Draft at Beer Run. Pours a nearly clear pale yellow color with a medium sized frothy head. Aroma of banana, wheat, green banana, mild spice. The taste is toasted wheat, banana, candied banana, spice, herbal hops. Medium bodied.

Keg at Kickbacks, RBWG. Pours fuzzy gold with a frothy, white foam head. Some dusty wheat in the nose, rich hay. Medium sweet flavor, some dry orange, hay, pale malts. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Clean, lightly dry finish, subtle tangy citrus, some further dusty wheat. The beer seems to be showing some age and certainly is not too edgy. Pretty tasty still, just not that sharp.

On tap tonight at the River Road Tavern Tap Takeover. Came to my stool a fairly clear golden color without much of a head. The aroma is quite fruity and tart with lots of sour cherries apricots and lemons as a well as a hint of bready malt and a slightly earthy aroma. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Tart fruit mixed with a bit of bread and caramel and a hint of funk. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a tart almost puckering mouthfeel. This is a very nice sour ale, I quite enjoyed it, its too bad its taken me this long to find it.
