Description
The brewery (location) is closed, beer is being brewed in Alabama @ Oyster City Brewing.

It all began with a Christmas gift in 1994. Billy Pyatt, a notoriously hard guy to buy presents for, fell in love with the carboys, pots, hydrometers, grains, hops, chemistry, and physics involved in brewing. His brother, Scott, fell right in with him. Their love became an obsession that could only be resolved by going pro – not an easy thing to do in 1999!

We have tasting Rooms in Asheville, Morganton and Charlotte NC. Our kegs & cans are distributed in TN, NC, SC, GA and AL.

Draft. Almost black, beige head. Aroma of coconut milk and cocoa. Taste is coconut flesh and dark milk chocolate, like a Mounds bar in a glass. Nice.

Can from Bruisin Ales (4.7% ABV). Pours hazy gold with a creamy/foamy white head. The aroma is zest, and seems more lemon than orange. ? Near medium body. The flavor is zest (still seems lemon) with wheat and a touch of sage. The wheat is actually flavorful. This is way better than most American wits I’ve tried. I think it’s underrated.

Sample at Acoustic Coffeehouse in Johnson City. The beer is a slightly hazy orange-amber color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of fruity hops and malt. Light body with flavors of citrusy hops and sweet malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a short hoppy aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

2011 Knoxville Brewer’s Jam. Hazy orange with a small white head. Funky aroma that was pleasant and not in any way overpowering. I imagine that time would change this one as the Brett developed, and this probably would have improved a bit with a little more time, but for now it was quite enjoyable. Definite Saison flavors.
