Description
The brewery (location) is closed, beer is being brewed in Alabama @ Oyster City Brewing.

It all began with a Christmas gift in 1994. Billy Pyatt, a notoriously hard guy to buy presents for, fell in love with the carboys, pots, hydrometers, grains, hops, chemistry, and physics involved in brewing. His brother, Scott, fell right in with him. Their love became an obsession that could only be resolved by going pro – not an easy thing to do in 1999!

We have tasting Rooms in Asheville, Morganton and Charlotte NC. Our kegs & cans are distributed in TN, NC, SC, GA and AL.

2 month old can A: Deep dark brown color with a short fast falling tan head. S: Chocolate, molasses and faint leafy hops. T: Spicy bitterness with some bark and roast. Fairly dry with only mild sweetness. M: Light and clean. Prickly carbonation plays well with the peppery flavor. O: Pretty tasty with some interesting aspects. I like it.

7 week old can A: Lightly hazed medium gold with a low but long standing head and thick lace. S: Evergreen nose with faint lemon lime and caramel. T: Bitter piney and pithy hops followed by some floral and woody notes that linger into the aftertaste. M: Light to medium body with average to crisp carbonation and a slightly oily finish. O: Pretty nice in all areas. I'd buy again.

Month old can A: Somewhat hazy and sediment laden pale gold color with a short head and little retention or lace. S: Spruce, pine, orange and citrus pith. T: Very bitter and fruity citrus and pith, ending with resinous pine. All over a biscuity base. M: Smooth texture, medium body, average carbonation and some resin to finish. O: Very nice. Never had the original Monster but this one is a hit IMO.

Shockingly good IPA, packed with barnyard funk, oaken bitterness, orange zest bite, and lemon-grapefruit hoppy goodness. Finishes dry and woody, with a mild peach flourish set against a lingering piney bitter fade. Wonderful pint.

Copper color with thick creamy head. Bready aroma. Taste is sweet caramel, floral hop crispness and subdued pumpkin pie spice. Creamy feel.

Draft at the Charlotte airport. Pours a mostly clear gold with a finger of white foam that lingers. Caramel, overripe orange and lemon aromas on the nose. More of the same on the palate. Grain and orange zest and mild grapefruit notes as it warms. Toasted malt and citrus on the finish. Strong pine and citrus pith on the finish. A bit too old school for my blood. --- Beer merged from original tick of CLT IPA on 26 Sep 2019 at 17:28 - Score: 7

More like a spiced golden ale than a proper wit, with a pilsner-ish cracker base and hints of grass and clove. Not getting much vanilla or wheat, just pilsner and a slight soapy undertone. Drank in Georgia—where Allagash is distributed—so pass.

Oddly fruity for a cream ale, with sweet lemon notes offsetting the cereal graininess and bready back end. Finishes with a swath of corn backed by grass and maybe, just maybe, a trace of hops. Probably not. Skippable.

Interesting, mixing a subtle java backbone with a crisp golden ale graininess, but the natural vanilla flavor proves sweet and overbearing, becoming much more prominent than any coffee notes. Vanilla presence only grows as the pint warms. Good orange color, and the nose is decent--if subdued--but ease off the flavoring chemicals, guys.
