Chelmsford Winter Beer Fest (with Rune, Rasmus, Saxo and Camons) @ KEGS. Cask. Light haze on this amber beer, bubbly pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, mildly sweet. Fluffy floral sweetness and ripe tropical fruits. A trace of milky sweetness. Little citric peel. Light floral citric finish. Decent, just that mild milky sweetness providing distraction.

Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. A muddy, peaty brown colour with a light caramel head; the aroma is of light wood smoke, slightly muted and refined compared with what is to follow; in the mouth it’s really smoky and savoury, in a smoky bacon crisp kind of way, the smoke is quite acrid but is balanced by a sweet lactic body with some fruity coffee flavours; then a dry finish with more smoke, that swirls around the mouth and totally destroys the palette. One to save until the end of a session, but only if you are a fan of smoked beers.

Don't see the point of matching Pacific Jade with Simcoe but in this case it just about worked.
