A gift from friends Brad and Angela, thanks guys!
Aromas are lots of caramel, with some dark malt and hints of cinnamon plus a bit of funk. Flavors are somewhat similar to nose, cinnamon comes out more. Not so much a brown ale as a dessert beer. But still good. Would be good at Thanksgiving.

Single can from HyVee, Carroll, IA. Pours a bright gold color, like any light lager. Spongy white head. Slight grassy hop nose, and some English hop, I think. Taste has some malty Dortmunder base, with just a little extra hop. A bit of sweetness is a slight distraction.

Both aromas and flavors have an interesting, though not necessarily good or bad combination of citrus and coconut.. is drinkable but I don't think I would seek it out.

16 oz. can, Canned 12/03/21. From HyVee, Ankeny. A mostly resiny nose. A LOT of chunky hop bits or yeast floating in a hazy yellow body. Almost like a Boba tea. Maybe it got stirred up before I popped it? A familiar sudsy head, at least. Maybe some citrus, but mainly resiny bitterness. And I'm afraid there's a soapy taste to this, too. Suspended floaties just increase when I empty the can into the glass. Suspecting this may have been a slight error in canning.

My 16 oz can came from a visit to see my son in Houston. New brewer, new beer, let’s go. It pours a dark brown-amber with a light skim of taupe foam. The scent is grain and candy. And the taste follows along with that, biscuit, cereal and a bit of toffee. Amber ales vary little in comparison and Make Waves continues that way.

Super deep dark brown coloured body with a nice two to three centimetre off-white and light tan coloured head that stays afloat fairly nicely. Aroma of crisp molasses, grain, roasted malt, licorice, bitter coffee, earth and some smoked peat - quite strong, but a good indication of the character. Medium-bodied; Some cream and lactose notes jump out along with some molasses, caramelised sugars, toffee, treacle, raisins and a hefty dose of coffee and cacao elements - with some deeper bitter flavours at the end, perhaps from some specialty grains like rye or oatmeal, but this really does taste more like a smoked beer (lightly). Aftertaste is pungent with some alcohol, deep roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and a bunch of earthy, peated malts with some light nuttiness flavours as well, but the cream and lactose are unmistakable and showing some nice round flavours, especially at the end, which had been potent on the bitterness and sharp notes. Overall, a nice and super flavourful beer that shows a lot of nice components while being slightly sweet, robust, full of malt and best yet - akin to the name/style they were intending on this one. I sampled this pint-sized, sixteen ounce can, purchased from Total Wine (the Forum) in Selma, Texas on 14-October-2019 for US$3,79 sampled at home in Washington on 11-February-2020.
