Description
Our passion for never settling, and brewing quality, flavorful beers started with our founder, Jim Koch. He brewed the first batch of Boston Lager in his kitchen – a recipe that belonged to his great great grandfather that he found in his father’s attic back in the early 1980’s. The Boston Beer Company has grown through the years to become the fourth largest brewery in the United States.
Initially, Koch rented excess capacity and brewed the beer at the Pittsburgh Brewing Company. As sales increased Koch developed other contract arrangements at various brewing facilities with excess capacity. To reduce reliance on contract brewing Cincinnati's Hudepohl-Schoenling brewery was purchased in early 1997).
In 2007, the Boston Beer Company purchased the former F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company brewery in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania. By 2012, the Company was producing two-thirds of all its beer at the Breinigsville facility, and it has increased brewing capacity there. The Boston Beer Company also has a small R&D brewery located in Boston (Jamaica Plain), Massachusetts, where public tours and beer tastings are offered.

Bottle. Light lemon malt aroma with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. Cloudy tan with moderate head. Very light wheat malt with slight cinnamon hint and the merest suggestion of fruit esters. Basically more like a middle of the road American wheat than a witbier. Still easy to drink and non-offensive.

I like how now and again I’ll scour my old notes and find something not entered! First my memories of this: Always was surprised by how good this was, at least, as far as light beers went. It wasn’t something I had regularly but never turned it down. My notes: darkish gold with a honeyed character (both aroma and flavor). Clean, boring. Medium bodied. Just enough hops.

Bottle Pours a very dark brown, with a very nice thick and dense off white head with real lasting power. Impressive actually. Lots of thick sheeting lacing. Aromas of chocolate malts and slightly sour woody notes. Flavor is lightly roasted malts with hints of chocolate and old wood barrrels. Thin feel but smooth on the palette. Lively carbonation and slightly bitter trailer. A bit of a lightweight overall but quite tasty I thought.

Light beer in and of itself is an abomination. However within the subset of beer known as light this is the finest example I can imagine. I have been known to pour this for folks to try without telling them what it is. None would confuse this for a great beer but also none pegged it as a light beer. A light beer does not have this color, this body, and this semblance of beer taste. There are many full calorie beers that are far more heinous than Sam Adams Light. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a caramel color with a medium sized white head that fades quickly. The aroma is sour and nutty. The flavor is sour, tangy and has a light nutty undertone. There is little aftertaste.

Poures a nice red/brown with a medium head that leaves fairly fast. Aroma is of spices, malt and caramel. Tastes of the same, noted some cinnamon, nutmeg and malt. A little hops in the finish. Second best beer in the holiday 12 pack.

Pour is a dark brown with a nice sized white head. Aroma is ok with lots of caramel aroma to go around. Flavor is the weak part of this brew. In fact its almost to weak to really get a good mouthfull of whats going on. Some malts are detected but nothing stands out. Very so-so.

Deep golden amber colour. No head. First it is sherry aroma, then caramel, molasses, vanilla and raisin aroma. Lots of caramel and molasses in the flavor. Also lots of vanilla. Long warming caramel finish.

First ratingBottle bought from the Swedish "Systembolaget", tried on January 13, 2006.Not so much character as a lot of the other brews from Samuel Adams, but I guess that comes with the beer style.5/3/5/3/10=2.6Rerate355 ml bottle purchased by deft from SystembolagetBB 15 July/09Labeled 5.2% ABVOn September 1, 2008Clear copper color, tan head. Pours a deep black with a decent amount of tan head. Aroma is sweet with caramel, some chocolate and malt. Some spices are also evident in the aroma. Taste is of dark malts and plenty o’ hops along with chocolate and caramel with some spices to round it all out. Overall not a bad brew, but I can’t say its my favorite porter.
