Description
Our passion for never settling, and brewing quality, flavorful beers started with our founder, Jim Koch. He brewed the first batch of Boston Lager in his kitchen – a recipe that belonged to his great great grandfather that he found in his father’s attic back in the early 1980’s. The Boston Beer Company has grown through the years to become the fourth largest brewery in the United States.
Initially, Koch rented excess capacity and brewed the beer at the Pittsburgh Brewing Company. As sales increased Koch developed other contract arrangements at various brewing facilities with excess capacity. To reduce reliance on contract brewing Cincinnati's Hudepohl-Schoenling brewery was purchased in early 1997).
In 2007, the Boston Beer Company purchased the former F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company brewery in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania. By 2012, the Company was producing two-thirds of all its beer at the Breinigsville facility, and it has increased brewing capacity there. The Boston Beer Company also has a small R&D brewery located in Boston (Jamaica Plain), Massachusetts, where public tours and beer tastings are offered.

Auburn color with a thin light beige head. Very strong cherry aroma. There was just too much cherry in the flavor making it almost sickeningly sweet. It doesn't even taste like cherries, more like the cherry flavoring they use to make popsicles or something. I honestly didn't bother finishing the bottle. This wasn't horrible, but they really need to tone down the cherry or balance it better with more malt.

Got this one on draught at Gameworks here in Columbus. Another good seasonal from Sammy's, although not as good as Old Fezziwig. Nice amber color with a medium head that dissipated quickly. Malty, lightly floral aroma. Nice malty flavor with light citrus notes. Slightly lacking on the Marzen scale but I couldn't find much to complain about.

As rating number 2 on August 7th 2002: More like Portwine than beer - but great tasting as a desert wine.[7/4/6/3/13]
After 7700 other reviews on February 15th 2007: A pitch black beer with no head, but making curtains on the glass as dessert wine. The aroma is powerful with notes of portwine, wood, sweet soy sauce, dark roasted malt, and cane sugar, as well as lighter notes of alcohol. The flavor is extremely powerful and quite sweet with notes of brown sugar, dark roasted malt, alcohol, portwine, wood, grapes, over ripe fruits, and prunes, leading to a quite sweet, but at the same time somewhat dry and woody finish. The body is quite powerful.

ahh sammy light. Finally a why-would-you-pay-this-much-money-to-get-drunk-when-you-can-just-buy-your-favorite-cheap-beer-beer! Otherwise, it’s a fairly heavy example. Good caramel flavoring, dry papery malt and maybe a touch of light nutty hops. Palate is too sharp and grainy though and gets too sweet on the finish.

quite spicy and malty, great if thats your thing. havent tried too many weiss beers so i wont say much more. in a general sense, it was ok, too sweet though. with no nice subtle complexities. Like an American influenced ur-weizen. Fairly clear and light yellow, good white head.

2001 bottle. pours a nice whitish-yellow. I was so impressed that the cranberry was subtle after having the cherry wheat. I love the bitterness too. why dont they make this not seasonal so i can study it more! 2002 bottle. Well I had it the next release the winter after this. TERRIBLE. one word, CLOYING. It had this nasty maple syrup taste that pervaded the beer and lingered on the palate forcing me to rinse my mouth out with something else. Let’s see what next season brings. 2004 bottle Garbage. Lightly sweet cranberries, some light pils malts. This resembles a lambic about as much as I resemble a giraffe. It’s funny, though, I still do remember that first bottle back in 2001 being pretty good. Probably just an inexperienced palate, though. Can’t imagine this was ever actually good.

2001 bottle. oh wow this was good. Had this in the winter sampler. Is this really Sam Adams? why dont they make the rest of their beers this good. Amazing complexity for this brewery, with good caramel malt notes. Not too spicy though, must be some nut in there too. A great old ale, something not seen from America much.

MMM. I like this one alot. A nice meaty flavor that I expect in a Pale ale though it has plenty of room for improvement. Good even taste throughout, with a bit of fruitiness i was not expecting. Wonderful pale gold color. not sure that this really comes off as an english pale ale though, too much carbonation, not enough body.

One of Sam Adams best in my opinion. Very drinkable, though there are better summer choices out there. Deep gold appearance with a medium to light body. Great coriander and lemon peel notes, even a little hoppy which was surprising. Probably a bit too spicy to really drink much of on a summer day.
