Description
Burning Sky, a brewers dream. The dream of a long term brewer with a love of both punchy hop forward pales and of the beautiful Belgian beer tradition. A brewers brewery, we are fortunate to be blessed with a talented team.
Whilst industrial units are convenient, they seldom inspire, so we chose to locate ourselves within the beautiful and inspirational South Downs, occupying refurbished farm buildings in a slightly quirky village. A true farmhouse brewery.
Producing our first beer in the Autumn of 2013, we were rewarded far beyond our expectations – not just with a couple of orders but with Mark being voted ‘Brewer of the Year 2014’ by The Guild of British Beer Writers, and the brewery being named 4th Best New Brewery in the World 2014 by Ratebeer.
Whilst ambitious, we do not wish to grow out of, or beyond the buildings we occupy. Instead we are investing heavily in the areas that we wish to grow in. The first craft brewery in the UK to install oak foudres for ageing beers in, we have just (at the end of 2016), completed the restoration of a Grade 2 listed building to expand upon this and our barrel ageing program. The beginning of 2017 saw us install a bespoke coolship in this space – a traditional vessel used for cooling hot wort. We will be using this to produce spontaneously fermented beers.
And all the while that this goes on, we continue to refine and pay particular attention to our core beers, making sure that we (and you), have something refreshing to relax and dream with at the end of the day.

Tap@Pelt Trader, London - black pour with thin white head. Dark malty aroma and taste, some dark berry fruits, bretty, earthy and medicinal herbal nuances going on. Weird, as not very "sour" , at first wasn’t keen, but this really grew on me. Pretty unique/interesting brew.

Cask gravity at Pigs Ear 2014. Black dark ruby beer. Chocolate and some roast. More a light black ipa than a porter. Ok. Good chocolate but a bit roast lime hop black ipa like.

Wonderful beer. Citrus, and light bretta in aroma. Pours hazy gold with ok head and lacing. Light sour and bitter finish with a hint of sweetness. Some light florals as well. Well-balanced. Tap at Churchkey.

Draft at Churchkey. Cloudy yellow, bright white head with good retention and solid lacing. Light floral aroma. Taste is delicate perfume, light dust, subtle pepper, light funk. Works well.

330ml 6.7% ABV bottled 17/06/14: BBD 17/06/16, poured on 20/11/14. Hazy, cloudy golden colour with an off-white head that begrudged being there. The aroma was sour lemons and other citrus like fruits, some hints of yeast and cow dung. The flavour also sour and citrusy in nature, again with yeastiness and those cows doing their stuff. Interesting brew, more for summer than winter in my opinion.

On tap @ BierCab. This is a cloudy looking kinda deep peach golden, some mild amnerbess in this and it has a nice big frothy lacing off-white head. Nose vise I get a fair amount of sweet red berries blended with yeast residues. Yeah, quite a fair amount of yeasty notes in this glass. Not super pleasant to be honest. Caramel sweetness, red caramel and yeasty nuts. I've smelled more inviting pale ales to be honest, but I guess it works. If has a soft carbonation level and a gliding oily feeling in the mouth. It's actually both quite toffee sweetish and zesty bitter this. It's clearly not a fresh keg this, or I hope it's not cause it sure doesn't taste all that fresh. Almost a little wood tart or even thin vinegary in the finish. Slightly oxidized in a way also. It definitely gets the job done though, cause I'm enjoying it more and more. 05.08.2014
