In 1983, Paul Vanneste (great-grandson of the founder) founded the new De Gouden Boom brewery in collaboration with Frank Boon Brewery from Lembeek. In 1985 Brouwerij De Gouden Boom is granted a licence to brew the STEENBRUGGE abbey beers.
On 16 November 2001, PALM brewery acquired a majority interest in Brouwerij De Gouden Boom and in 2003 it was completely taken over by Palm Brewery. In the same year the Prior of St Peter’s Abbey in Steenbrugge licensed PALM Breweries to brew STEENBRUGGE abbey beers.
Since 2004 production of Bruges beers has been relocated to the PALM Breweries site in Steenhuffel.

Bottle. The beer presented itselves by acting volcano, and the beer ending up in my glass had a hazy, golden-brown body, under a big, rocky, beige head. There’s some sourness in both aroma and flavor. Other than that, the aroma has a good fruityness and lots of dried fruits. The flavor has some bitterness and roasted notes as well as fruityness. The finish is astringent and sour. Didn’t suit my tastebuds too well. (071013)

Bottle, 6.5%. BB 2004, 3 years ago. Very malty and slightly roasted aroma. Hazy dark brown colour. Small light brown head. The flavour is roasted and quite oxidized, probably better fresh. Portish, vinous and oxidized, not exactly my favourite flavours. Thinnish mouthfeel.

0.33 l bottle. Dark golden colored with lot of ebony head. Nice, moderate carbonation. Aroma of floral, maybe citrus hops. Generally strong flavor, but for triple not at all. Alcohol is really obvious, but after few sips easily drinkable, like any other beer. Good finish, very long and full. Nice beer, but I think for a triple should be a it less watery and with more pronounced components.
