Description
Twickenham Fine Ales was the first brewery in Twickenham since Cole’s Brewery closed in 1906. In the beginning there was a 10 barrel plant which was installed in a small unit opposite a Greggs Bakery factory – pint and a pasty seeming natural bedfellows.

The early days of experimentation and trial settled down with the arrival of Tom Madeiros, as Brewer, in 2005. Being American the use of American hops seemed a natural path and Twickenham became an early adopter of the now popular and more common place hops used in many beers today.

The variety of hops grew and Twickenham now uses hops from countries including: England, Germany, Slovenia, USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Cask handpull at White Horse, Parsons Green. Having been to the Twickenham brewery during the time that Urbain from Struise was over brewing this, I approached it with a lot of anticipation. Very dark brown with thin beige head. Chocolate and malt aroma. Just a little watery in mouth, could do with a bit more condition. Quite full on the swallow though, with good drying malt on finish. Good full choc maltiness that has a hint of spice on the finish. 3.5/5 Re-rate at SIBA Hop Farm, Paddock Wood. So much better than in White Horse. The roasted choc fullness is superb. Really woke me up. Startled me, great body, aroma of choc and malt is lovely. Great in mouth. Just so much better and fuller.
