Description

The creation of two passionate amateurs, the Brasserie de la Semois project was born in 2007. Bruno Collard from Florenville and Philippe Husson from Sainte-Marie sur Semois. Curious to explore the hoppy universe, like many amateurs, they prepare a few recipes in their pots. After a few tries, very quickly they want to brew in larger quantities. Eddy Pourtois from the Brasserie Sainte-Hélène accommodates them in its facilities. They can thus design and brew their beers themselves, live their dream, from grain to bottle. Over the years, they passionately discover the different techniques, the different styles.

Sampled draft @ Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas during Zwanze day 2013. Hazy golden with a fading white head. Nose is big barnyard, hay, peppery, quite rustic & Wallonian with some nice hops. Tastes rustic with some barnyard, hay, white pepper, touch hops, lemon combined with some malt & touch candy sugar sweetness which lessens it a bit. Hazy & bit oily body. (Thx! for sharing people!)

Draft @ ML Fontainas. Encore une bière de cette brasserie qui se fait toujours autant élusive. Dorée, col blanc crémeux. Arôme est agréablement bien houblonné et m’a pris un peu par surprise car on trouve ici ce qu’il faut pour apporter un peu de changement au paysage brassicole belge tout en gardant des bières classiques. Note fleurie avec des effluves rappelant la citronnelle, le tout étant bien frais. Palais gagne en goût avec l’ajout de Columbus. On retrouve un caractère fruité prenant sur un herbacé vert coriace et très agréable. Le côté malté reste, quant à lui, centré sur un ajout carapils, pâle pour une fin de bouche sèche. Une bière qui passez presque pour une petite pils. Quoiqu’il en soit, et si cette bière vient de chez St Hélène, ce qui en porte les marques, je salue Eddy pour son travail. Bière savoureuse légère et facile à boire.

draft @ Marché des Produits Luxembourgeois, 19/09/2012. Ambrée trouble, col blanc cassé. Arôme malté grillé avec un bouquet rappelant plus les fruits rouges/noirs. Pointe de caramel et léger bouquet noisette. Palais présente une rondeur de bouche en comparaison à la blonde, le tout est fruité avec ce profilé de fruits rouges. Garde en retrait une douceur fleurie. Ici aussi, la levure ajoute une épaisseur de bouche allant presque vers le terreux. Petit pointe sucrée et malt cara, le tout relevé par une brève amertume citronnée.

draft @ Marché des Produits Luxembourgeois, 19/09/2012. Dorée/orangée sur un léger trouble, col épais blanc. Arôme est malté, léger avec un beau profile houblonné entre Fuggle et Challenger, le tout sur un léger bouquet fruité alternant entre citronné et fruité frais. Palais est sec voire légèrement farineux avec une belle présence de grains. Effervescence agréable, malt caramel-pâle, le houblon est bien placé avec des notes fruitées/citronnées et une brève pointe fleuri. Le fini est sur un houblonnage à cru. Belle découverte avec, je suis certain, une influence certaine de St Hélène.

750ml bottle-shared by jtc-pours dark amber/brown with a thin offwhite head. Aroma is dried fruit, medium malt. Taste follows with some metallic.

75cl bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Hazy red color, average sized, quickly diminishing off-white head that leaves a fair lacing. Smell malts, a bit winey, overripe fruits. Taste almost the same: malts, overripe fruits, a bit winey, lightly sweet-bitter. Pretty nice. Medium body, medium carbo.

Bottle shared with Jcwattsrugger. Pours caramel brown. off white head. Nose/taste of toffee, malt, yeast, caramel, dried nuts and fruits and some off notes. Lightish body.

Very carbonated beer with UFO’s and completely fine-bubbled to towering, frothy off-white head, amazingly stable. Malty, pale malts balanced by dry-spicy hops. Gardenherbs and quite grassy - nice. Powerful ànd delicate. Sharpish, bitterish and very spicy flavour; grains, dusty hops and herbs. Grassy again, but more dominated by the other flavours than in the nose. Farmyard - saison-like. After some time, something smokey creeps in. Very spritzy, lightish, but quite grist-slick body. Excellent, in fact!

ChrisOs ’Donkey Dork Lord’ Pre-GBBF Tasting. Hazy amber beer, good off white head. Light dry palate. Minerally and slightly sweet tangy malt.

Bottled@The Chriso Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011 "Donkey Dork Lord Edition". Hazy golden/amber colour with a small head. Aroma is fruity, spicy, mildly yeasty along with some slight alcohol and mild sappy notes. Flavour is quite much the same in a quite sweet way.
