Description
As the name suggests is Villers-devant-Orval a charming little village opposite Orval Abbey and Brewery. It was there that the history and legend of Saint Gengoulf led to the birth of the Gengoulf brewery and its craft beers. In 2011, four friends (André Odwa, Vincent Habran, Olivier Tarnus and Marc Hisette) decided to brew their own beer, which was slightly softer than that of the neighbors of Orval, and which their wives would also enjoy because they did not like the bitterness of Orval and in 2013 the brewery was actually established.

23/III/14 - 75cl bottle @ home - BB: n/a (2014-305) Thanks to Geroen for selling me the bottle!

Little cloudy dark blond beer, huge creamy white head, very stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: citrus, bit fruity, grassy. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: little bitter, sweet and malty, bit sugary, soft honey flavour. Aftertaste: little bitter, grains, malty, hay, sweet, some citrus, bit fruity. Not bad, although the honey is not very present.

33cl bottle split with 77ships. BB 03/2016.

Thanks for sharing Sebletitje. 33 cl. bottle sampled. New Belgian brewery, located close to Orval (the brewery in the town Orval) so maybe they are using their yeast as well? Nice ancient theatre themed label. Pours a murky musty orange with little, patchy white head. Smell is sweet grapefruit, plaster, oddly seems a bit vintage, very thick, surplus of yeast, sweet malts and lightly dusty fruits. Taste is bitter esters, too much, thick layer of yeast, plaster, very light cellar notes (odd), overripe, lightly mouldy fruits, grapefruit & peach, bitter herbal in the finish, hint plastic. Body is dominated by excessive yeast. Agreable. The breweries website is only their logo at the moment - like the old Darkthrone website.
