Description
As the name suggests is Villers-devant-Orval a charming little village opposite Orval Abbey and Brewery. It was there that the history and legend of Saint Gengoulf led to the birth of the Gengoulf brewery and its craft beers. In 2011, four friends (André Odwa, Vincent Habran, Olivier Tarnus and Marc Hisette) decided to brew their own beer, which was slightly softer than that of the neighbors of Orval, and which their wives would also enjoy because they did not like the bitterness of Orval and in 2013 the brewery was actually established.

A 33cl bottle in De Bierboom, Brugge on 26th Nov 2016. Misty golden pour, none-stop gushing, white head: very lively indeed. Orval yeast used according to the bottle labelling. Hoppy, piney throughout, pity it was a gusher!

Slightly yellowish, whipped eggwhite-like stable head, lacey, over well-carbonationed orange-golden beer. Milky, lactic (not acid) nose, white candi sugar, lightly peppery aroma. Stable head keeps lots of hopbitterness concentrated. Quite dry, straw-like, dry grass-like flavours. Again white candi sugar; alcohol conspicuous for such a low ABV beer. Creamy texture, well-carbonated, bit empty palate in flavour/aftertaste. Not very exciting.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie. Consumed at home Sunday 22nd November 2015 Hazy yolky gold with a billowing foamy white head. Spice on the nose and some yeastiness and a bit of cardboard. Soft carbonation in the mouth. Refreshing but a little bit thin, spicy, fruity and a bit plasticy. Ok. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov11 3.0
