Huge thanks to hopscotch for bringing this growler. The aroma has nice notes of oak, vanilla, some sticky malts and pine hops. The taste is great with smooth sweet malts mixing with smooth oak, sweet vanilla and a hefty amount of pine hop goodness all flowing together seamlessly. It ends with the addition of a weak pulse of whiskey along with lingering pine hops and vanilla. This just comes together amazingly well. I could drink this all night.

Tap: Pours a hazy orange with white color head. Nose is very hoppy and lively. Taste is gritty hops that leaves way to a nice smooth malt finish.

Draught: Poured a black with a light brown thin head. Aroma was light to none existent. The taste was strong dark chocolate with light hints of fruit. Not as much fruit as I would have thought from the description, but alright brew overall.

Whole Foods Market, DC sixer ($10): Pours a black color with a small beige head. Aroma is chocolate and hops... yup yup mix of a porter and an IPA. In my opinion, the taste of this black IPA goes more to the direction of the porter or at least the front of it is more porter dominant and the finish and aftertaste starts to let the IPA flavors through. I don’t know if the flavors are really well-balanced with each other, because it feels like you are really mixing two beers together somewhat ad hoc. Not the best Black IPA I’ve had.

This beer is a mostly clear dark amber color with a white head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of piney hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of hops, citrus and pine plus a sweet malty undertone. The finish is resiny hops with a lingering caramel malt aftertaste. Above average overall.
