Description
Purchased by Tilray in 2022.
Our story started in 1998 with two friends who noticed a lack of fresh beer on Long Island and wanted to lower their bar tabs. We built a brewery on Long Island's South Shore in Patchogue, a tough and humble coastal town.
In 2014, Blue Point partnered with Anheuser-Busch, joining its family of craft brands in The High End business unit. Our operations, brewing and management team continue to be led from Patchogue, N.Y.
In 2019 we opened our new brewery on Patchogue's Main Street. This new facility will not only increase our brewing capacity, but will also lets beer lovers experience the people and place that inspire Blue Point every day. And we're pretty damn proud to be a part of that.

(Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 29 Sep 2007) Amber colour with creamy beige head. Fruity nose with grapefruit, dried fruit, pine needles and resin. A bit sweet and sweaty. Full, fruity taste with loads of hops, grapefruit, pine needles and resin. Full body, thick and syrupy. A bit too sweet. Balanced is hardly the correct word. Saved by the massive and irresistible hop character.

Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival. Clear bronze colour, small head. Sweet with fairly light body and clean mouthfeel. Low on hops with hard crystal malt character, notes of lemon and not much else. Low bitterness. Dull and lifeless.

Bottle. Copper orange body with a pretty nice head that is mostly white, but seems to have a purple color to it every now and again. Aromas are overwhelmingly blueberry. Fairly nasty, really... Initial thoughts are that the blueberries do not mesh well with the malts... they are both off doing their own thing and they pull the palate in opposite directions. As it warms a little I’m beginning to like it more... (my hand was pretty close to the drain earlier), but I’m still not giving out any awards. Like many of the fruit mixes I’ve had, the beer and the fruit don’t seem to like to be together... instead it is more of a gimmick to sell a few brews and maybe someone out there will fall in love and buy a case, but not this guy.

Bottle. Has an orange/amber color with a dense one finger head. Aromas are predominantly pine... a bit of a skunk cabbage smell that from time to time is detectable along with some grapefruit. Flavor is fairly heavy on the piney hops and is mostly bitter. That said, there is enough malt to make it mostly enjoyable. Refreshing but could have just a bit more of a malt presence.

On tap at the Bocktown. both times old and new. New: better smell. Old: I can smell the blueberries from here, very attractive. Has an appearance of a reddish ale, almost like rose wine. Head is thin and creamy looking. When it comes to taste, is not quite as sweet as the aroma would indicate but it certainly is fruity. More on the tart side. Except for the tartness, this brew is pretty much like many other fruit beers out there. You get a blast of fruit, in this case blueberries. Has medium low carbonation. Many wheat beers are used for the base but this seems to use a pale lager. The finish is an industrial mild pale lager building bitterness that hangs for a while. IMHO Lancaster strawberry wheat is much more enjoyable.
